Brewed with the finest Maris Otter and optic malts, sourced locally to the brewery, with the addition of three hop varieties including First Gold.
Southwold Bitter is a beautiful copper-coloured beer, late and dry-hopped with Fuggles for a distinctive, lingering hoppiness.
Brewed with the finest East Anglian Pale Ale malt barley, sourced locally to the brewery. We use Fuggles hops which we add late in the boil to preserve the herbal flavours of this traditional English hop.
First brewed in 1967, it was originally called Adnams Best Bitter. It holds our oldest trademark, Southwold Jack, and remains the original hero in our range.
Southwold Bitter is as distinctive as ‘Southwold Jack’ (the knight with the sword) who appears on the pump clip and has done so through many incarnations. Many Adnams beer fans would agree with our Head Brewer that Adnams Bitter is a truly distinctive pint. We wouldn’t be overselling it to describe it as a classic.

Bottle, DØE Øllets dag @ Bdr. Schmidt, Viby Centeret. Pours amber with a offwhite head. Aroma of malt, caramel, grass, little spice. Flavor is malt, caramel, spice, grassy hops. Medium body, soft carbonation, light bitter finish. 070913

Bottle from Tesco’s. Poured a clear medium amber with a broken white head and a little initial carbonation. The aroma is weak malt leading to a medium bitter flavour with some malt and bitter hops on the smooth, slightly watery palate. The bitterness lingers for a while in the finish. A decent English session bitter and quite refreshing when cool.

Bottle at home. Pours clear dark copper with white head that quickly goes. Low carbonation for a bottled beer. Metallic nose, light flora hops. Boring brown beer.

Clear caramel colour, no head. Aroma of butter, malts, caramel and hay. Malty sweet flavour, caramel. Quite thin. Finish caramel and malts.

Bottled 500ml. -from Ljubljanski Festival Piva, Slovenia. Amber coloured, small off-white head, mild floral nose. Moderate malty, nutty and floral hoppy with notes of caramel and short bitterish finish. Average one.

Bottle. Brown colour with a light creamy off-white head with good lasting. Aroma is light malty, toasty and caramel, earthy notes. Flavor is mild bittery with slightly caramel hints and English hops. The final is bittery and dry.

Shared this bottle @ joes. Amber to copper colour with no real head. Smells some caramel, some nice subtle roastyness and herbs. Tastes malts, slightly herbs, bitter, sweet. Lovely subtle beer. Thin body, soft carbo.

Nice dark, bitter with lots of mellow roasted bitterness. Smooth and enjoyable, color is clear dark brown with oil sheen beige head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and burnt toast. Taste is oak, strong ice tea, roast grains, nuts. Very well done.

Flaske kjøpt på Berentsens ølutsalg, delt med Ovesen: frisk og fruktig smak med litt karamellsødme i tillegg. En ypperlig forfriskning en søndag formiddag mens vi venter på at mesken skal bli ferdig.
