For the Vintage Ale 2020, we've stayed true to our roots - sourcing all our ingredients here in the UK. The story starts with DRC®, a Double Roasted Crystal malt from East Anglia that promises malty sweetness rich in caramel and raisin. Then there's the Herefordshire hops - Jester® and Godiva- adding ripe berry fruit and tangy citrus notes to the signature marmalade flavours of our famous Fuller's yeast.

500ml on Alex's porch. Appearance: almost clear copper with a tan head. Aroma: malty, fruity, some sweetness and flowers, nice. Taste: along the same lines with a nice hoppy bitterness. Overall: it's good old school stuff.

Bottle from Fuller's online shop. It pours clear mahogany brown with a decent beige head. The aroma is earthy, toothy, bitter - sweet, dried fruits, raisin, sultana, toasted brown sugar, rum & raisin, oak, varnish, plum, fig, prune and jam. The taste is dry and oaky upfront, bitter - sweet, juicy, jam, raisin, sultana, fig, prune, spice, toothy, earthy, warming booze, caramel, toffee, spice, chewy, leafy hops, dandelion & burdock, spice and some warmth through the finish. Medium - fulsome body and moderate carbonation. Rich and robust. Good one.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - a beautiful amber to autumnal red. Slightly off-white proportionate head. Nose - wild strawberry, red cherry and wood. Taste - wood, cherry again. Dried orange and an edge of fruitcake generally. Palate - medium bodied plus. Creamy texture. Rich but elegant linger. Overall - fantastic demonstration of how malts and subtle hops usage can create fruit in a beer.

Bottle No. 06455 from Bine & Vine. Pours like a clear dark sherry with a very large foamy beige head. Aroma of red prunus fruit, perhaps even red berries, with some floral and moderately dark caramel - not quite toffee. Med body. Flavor is earthy/floral/malty. Fruit hardly worth mentioning. The slightest bit of burn - which might be heat. Now the malt seems headed for slightly roasty toffee. As ever, Fuller's Vintage Ale just can't be beat as an English strong ale.

Bottle. Bright, dark amber. Thick head. Delicate fruitiness from the Fuller's yeast, soft caramel. Balanced, nice bitterness, hint of alcohol. The malts are bright and complex, and hops herbal and unique (for me).

[50cl bottle, #046751, from Waitrose, Bracknell.] A caramel coloured pour with a tight beige head; aroma of caramel malt and a little yeast; rich caramel malt body with some berry fruit, toffee and sherry; then a touch of spice and a fresh leafy bitterness before a long vinous toffee finish. All is well in the world when you have a glass of this in your hand.

500mL bottle, pours a clear dark amber with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out the usual English caramel malt, ale yeast, toffee, and bready malt. Flavour follows accordingly, with rich caramel malt, toffee, bready malt, and some sherry-like oxidation. The alcohol is felt but not detractingly so. Sweet, but nowhere close to cloying, and it's balanced nicely by the alcohol. This seems like one of the better vintages.
