A traditional India Pale Ale, brewed with a hugely increased hop rate for a strong, floral aroma, and a powerful, bitter taste. East Kent Goldings, Challenger, Fuggles, Pacific Gem and Pioneer hops

Downton Brewery Chimera IPA is a truly classic IPA bursting with resinous hoppy flavours that packs quite a punch - justas a traditional IPA should. Refreshing for the summer, yet strong enough to be warming in the winter;brewed with a hugely increased hop rate for a strong, floral aroma, and a powerful, bitter taste.

Pours a clear golden color, topped with a decent and semi-lasting white head. Aroma has some fruity notes, but herbal aroma prevails with some soury feel to it. Taste followes the nose. Mild fruitiness, slight sweetness but mostly herbal bitterness. Not the best IPA I had. Drinkable, yes, but not that enjoyable to be fair.

500 ml bottle. Almost clear golden body with a white head. Not much aroma at all, just some malt. Flavor is just harsh and malty, like a IPA or another hop driven beer way behind best before date, but I’m still one year ahead for this date. Almost no bitterness either, more metallic and harsh. Not a pleasant one at all. Five sips and down the drain.

0.5l bottle. The first impression here is that it's quite pale for an IPA. When it settles in the glass this is a slightly cloudy golden one and it has a big really fluffy white super-lacing head. On the nose it's more like a dull lager almost. It is actually slightly metallic with traces of both corn and pale malts. Hops detected on the nose? Nope, but wet grape skin is. It doesn't really taste and good either. Why brew something like this and marked it as an IPA, cause it's clearly not. Metallic burn in the throat. High on the bubbles and oily in the mouth. Something slightly different sour like green apples also over this. Not a very pleasant one at all. 02.08.2014

500ml bottle 7% from Tuckers Maltings. Clear golden colour, frothy white foam head leaving lacing and aroma of caramel, orange, hoppy & floral with a metallic twang. Taste is sweetish pale malt, grain, caramel, citrus, floral woody hop with some lingering metallic bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying bitter finish. Quite drinkable.

18.07.2014, 0,5l bottle @ home:
Small slightly bubbly mediumlasting head. Aroma is light malts, weeds, hay, caramel, flowers, cereal. Taste is harsh and horribly metallic, feels like licking on a metal plate, harsh grass, weeds, alcohol, almond essence, hay, harsh grain. Longlasting harsh bitterness, dry metallic mouthfeel. Can’t get much worse than this crap....!

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe, shared at home. Pours a hazy golden with a lacklustre head. Some orange on the nose, but mostly grassy and soapy hops. Light resin on the taste, good bitterness though. Doesn’t quite have the oomph I’d expect from the strength. OK.

Cask at the gothique 29/03/13. Golden colour loose white head. Tea aroma neutral. Watery thin palete. Very low hops for an ipa. Some yeast bite.

Bottle from Bernie's, Solihull. Cloudy yellow pour with a thin white head. A very bitter ale but not a very pleasant taste. The bitterness is quite refreshing but not something that you want to hang around for too long. Not the best combination of hops for me. Will probably avoid in future. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
