On tap @ BierCab. Oh, it's really black this. I'd go as far as to call this jet pitch black where it's floating in the glass. A huge brownish head is safely placed on top. Smells nice also. Roasted and dark. It has a slightly Schwarzbier dry burntness to it. Ink and charred wood. I like it. Really tasteful without being to much. A nice oily feeling in the mouth and it's below average on the carbonation. Dark roasted flavors also. A tad sweeter than the aroma suggested. Vanilla chocolate cake frosting, some nice warming alcohol that I honestly wasn't expecting from a relatively mild imperial Stout. It's just as dark in the taste as it looks really, as it's leaving a really deep dark black feeling in the mouth for minutes after the swallow. I enjoyed this one. 11.08.2014

Bottle from Oddbins. Black body with a massive brown head that quickly fades. Faint lacing. Aroma of vanilla, dark chocolate and filter coffee. Flavour of hazelnut, burnt toast and wood. Peppery finish. Incredibly drinkable for its strength. Medium body with a sticky mouthfeel. Lively carbonation, which I feel is a good thing as it lifts what would otherwise be a more heavy-going beer. An impressive beer.

Keg at the Cask, Pimlico, 11/04/14. Light black with a good sized dirty tan covering. Nose is rich chocolate, roast malt, grainy notes, toffee. Taste comprises roast malt, dark chocolate, molasses, light spice, toffee fudge. Medium + bodiment, fine carbonation, sweet licks in the closure. Ok impy, an easy drinker but lacks the complexity to make it a great, decent none the less. The alcohol is well integrated.

Half pint on tap at Brauhaus. Coal black body, good amount of lacing for a non-existent head. Prominent cocoa nose, smooth roasted. Gentle taste of chocolate malts mixed with dark fruits and liquorice. Rounded, roasted bittersweet tail. Integrated alcohol. Full bodied. A well-made stout (Edinburgh 06.08.2013).

Cask Pub & Kitchen. Keg. Opaque dark brown - black beer. Little pale tan head. Smooth palate. Fine minerally carbonation. Creamy dark malt, quite light and showing no roast or bitterness. Light tang and a pleasant cherry streak. Touches of dark fruits and esters.Finishes smooth. For a beer of this style and strength it could so with a lot more richness and complexity, but it’s quite drinkable.

Keg at CASK pub & Kitchen. It pours near black with a small beige head. The nose is roasted malt, toast, earth, light smoke, cherry, blueberry, treacle and ash. The taste is bitter-sweet, roasted malt, treacle, earth, light smoke, cherry, blueberry, caramel, cola, toast and light ash with a dry, roasty finish. Medium+ body and low carbonation. Smooth and easy drinking. Would have been better with a touch more carbonation, but still pretty tasty stuff.
