Christmas IPA is a malt forward IPA using 6 different hops throughout the process. Subtle stone fruit and wood notes balance with caramel malt on the palate dry-hopped with Meridian, Ahtanum, and Cashmere. It’s got a bit of an old school feel on the malt side with caramel malt and a lovely red hue to go wit the classic kettle hop backbone. Nicely balanced and dry, this little number dons a big fruity aroma.

Tap. Opryland Hotel. Dark gold in color with a two finger head. Aroma was basically hoppy. Taste was malt foward with a hoppy, bitter finish.

This amber orange brew smells of piney and citrus hops. It tastes of resinous hops and caramel malt with some citrus. It’s medium bodied with ample hops bitterness and a palate smoothed by a solid malty sweetness. Good IPA.

Deep, dark red and light brown coloured body with a thick, four to five centimetre tall rich tan head that stays afloat nicely. Aroma of deep toasted malts, with toffee, caramelised sugars and a slight pine scent that brings in some hops. Medium-bodied; Strong, rich, nutty, herbal, piney and even grapefruity notes show through with a lot of toast and floral notes here and some sweetness from the caramelised sugars, but more of the bitterness from the malt and especially the hops. Aftertaste shows the rich malts, bright citrus fruits, strong hops, slight sweetness and especially the nutty and earthy grains at the very end, that are quite bitter. Overall, a nice and rich beer that definitely shows more of an APA or even an English styled Pale than an IPA in any conventional American type. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Giant Food in Alexandria (Potomac Yard), Virginia on 22-October-2020 for US$1,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 16-December-2020.

12 ounce can. Clear, amber orange pour. Nice frothy beige head leaves spotty lacing. Piney hop aroma over a toasted malt base. Flavor is toasted malt with some caramel and spicy pine hops. Medium bodied and flavorful. Like the little brother to Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale.

2021 can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a clear copper with a finger of beige head that lingers, then dissipates. Aromas of pine, honey and shortbread malt notes. More of the same on the palate. Very balanced, easy drinking. Great balance between hop and malt. Almost like a hoppy scotch ale that is muted. Enjoyable.

Pours light mahogany into a shaker. Mocha head with little retention recede to skim surface. Licorice, spice and soy aromas. Soft with pumpernickel and licorice upfront turning to earthy pine in the medium length finish.
