A new way to enjoy our iconic Old Peculier! Until now our legendary Old Peculier has only been available as a cask conditioned beer on draught. However, we are proud to announce that the development of cold filtration has enabled us to apply a new conditioning technique to Old Peculier that ensures the unique flavours and aromas of the cask version are preserved. Served at a cooler temperature to suit contemporary tastes.
Brewed with only the finest malted barley, Challenger, Target and the majestic Fuggle hops. Fermented with the famous Theakston twin strain yeast to create its extra strength and complex character. The legendary Old Peculier is a deep, dark ruby coloured ale with a rich, fruity flavour with hints of black cherry and banana.

(Cask at Courtfield, Earl’s Court, London) I was surprised to find this beer served from a hand pumped cask. Appearance was nice: light brown head and deep dark brown liquid. Aroma and flavours were working combination of roastedness, liquorice, malts and bitterness. Yet, to spoil mildle all this pleasantness, there were these homebrew like features: yeastiness and wort.

From the wood, Swansea Bay Beer Festival. Tawny brown with a loose head. The aroma is sweet - caramel, diacetyl with light fruitiness. The taste is fruitcakey, fruity, fun spiciness, molasses, lots of dark malt complexity. Majestic flavours. Woody dryness at the end like you find in Franconian beer vom holz. Wow - this is very different from the bottled stuff. Some tartness in the finish lends a fun balance. That whiff of butter in the nose is long gone. This is a very unique beer, especially from the wood and gravity pour. Leaves a nice spiciness on the tongue, like a good beef or lamb stew.

At brewery. Prune and toffee malt aroma. Dark brown color with moderate head. Prune/raisin, toffee malt and light grass hops flavor. A classic.

From cask. Pours dark brown to black with a small, dense and off-white head. Aroma is overripe fruity and dark malty. Dry malty and bitter flavoured. Slight herbal in hops profile. Bitter and dry finish.

Cask at GBBF 2010. Deep ruby coloured pour with a healthy beige head. Sweet dark fruit aroma. Sweet tastng, banana, dark fruit, caramel, malty, smooth drinking. Nice stuff.

Cask at the Salisbury in Manchester. Very dark brown with a bit of red. Fruity, semi-sweet, slightly roasted aroma. Flavor of chocolate, raisins/figs, lots of fruit. Great malt. Full flavor, with a touch of citrus. Very smooth. Slightly sour finish with roasted malt and hops. Great stuff, clearly outshining the bottled version.

Dark chestnut color; creamy head (sprinkler). Nice caramel aroma. Quite round mouthfeel, good caramel flavor, in the end there is light chocolate too, and at the very end a touch of sweet liquorice; correct bitterness. Solid Ale, very good; it’s nice how the malt stick on the lips for some time.
