A new way to enjoy our iconic Old Peculier! Until now our legendary Old Peculier has only been available as a cask conditioned beer on draught. However, we are proud to announce that the development of cold filtration has enabled us to apply a new conditioning technique to Old Peculier that ensures the unique flavours and aromas of the cask version are preserved. Served at a cooler temperature to suit contemporary tastes.
Brewed with only the finest malted barley, Challenger, Target and the majestic Fuggle hops. Fermented with the famous Theakston twin strain yeast to create its extra strength and complex character. The legendary Old Peculier is a deep, dark ruby coloured ale with a rich, fruity flavour with hints of black cherry and banana.

Cask @ Old Mill Brodie. (Notes from memory)
Dark brown/black with rich tan head and good lacing.
Aroma of rich dark malts, roasted malts, sweet, some liquorice, some yeast fruitiness.
Taste of liquorice, dark fruits, rich dark malts, spicy light earthy hops, sweet molasses, yeast, touch of plain chocolate, unique bit peculier (!) flavour.
Palate - soft carb, medium to full body. Finish of dark rich malts, smooth, continuation of main flavour, length of finish just right.
Overall - This is a unique flavoured English beer. It gets better with the drinking, your palate/taste buds need to adjust - but has to be spot on at the pub

Cask. Clear dark brown with an orange hue and a small and creamy beige head leaving laces. Sweet pruney nose, spicy too. Quite full-bodied, almost flat with a velvety mouthfeel, plenty of dark overripe fruit and a little licorice. Very pleasant and christmassy with a very subdued bitterness. 041111

Cask at the Wharf. A clear looking chestnut colored beer almost completely without head. Lots of dried fruits on the nose, with some coffee and chocolate. Prunes and figs, and a lightly oxidized touch. A faint hint of paint thinner. Probably just the yeast playing. And then some licorice kicks in. The flavor is lightly weaker, some bitterness in addition to what’s found in the aroma. Full body. Long finish with a good dash of licorice. A nice beer indeed. 111104

[Cask at the Royal Standard of England, Beaconsfield] Dark brown, flat, with a slight cream head. Chocolate and brown sugar dominate, although the odd plum and port hints manage to escape. Enjoyed it for a little while, but it rapidly became far too sweet and syrupy for me. The bottled version was better, I thought.

Gravity cask at the Bree Louise. Pours clear, ruby-brown with no head. Rich, toasty malt aroma with ripe, dark fruits. Flavor is fairly sweetan a touch syrupy, with fruity sugars and very faint herbal bitters. Medium in body with almost no carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish with more sugary malts, cherries and grapes. Not too bad but I’ll bet the condition could be better.

Cask dispense, half pint at Barony Bar. A small layer covering a deep, mahogany coloured body. Malt, fruit and berries to the nose. Fine balanced taste of dark malts and dark fruits supported by a touch of blackcurrant. Pleasant bitterness on the swallow. Well made brew (Edinburgh, 01.12.2010).
