With this special brew, Batch One, we dared to experiment with combining our usual devotion to a solid malt profile with the addition of American aroma hops. Batch One is an American-inspired Ale characterized by its vast, full body and generous use of hops. In the glass, it has a reddish-brown colour with a coppery glow, and a beige-coloured head leaves a nice lacing behind. For this brew we have chosen to only use the noble Simcoe hop, both for boiling and the following dry-hopping. The hops give the beer its fresh citrus-like character and impart a solid bitterness to balance the sweet caramel malt.

Bottle from thewolf, thanks! Orange brown color. Malty, slightly salted seafood aroma. Malty sweetish flavor with pineapple, flowery hops and a hint of grapefruit. Well balanced beer.

Draft at FOB. Pours beautiful reddish brown, fairly transparent, with moderate white foam, very fine. Aroma is herbaceous, tropical, fruity. Body is very dense with good carbonation. Taste is intensely bitter. Some sweetness too, in the back, but buried in all those hops. Finish is long and bitter, maybe excessive.

On tap @ Henrik. This is a blurry reddish copper colored one with a nice really creamy - almost nitro creamy off-white top. Smells really sweet, malty and nice. Light nutty also with dark candied sugar, wood syrup and some red berries. I like this aroma. It's quite nutty in the flavor. No, make that really nutty. Almost a bit like Nutella. Soft really creamy smooth mouthfeel with a soft prickling carbonation level. A bit sweet at first, almost soapy, fruity with red ripe berries. Some nice gentle traces of alcohol in the finish and aftertaste. 05.07.2013

On tap at Henrik, Bergen. The colour is hazy dark reddish amber with a creamy light beige medium head. Sweet aroma of fruity hops, peach and berries. More fruity hops in the flavour with some grapefruit. Still pretty sweet. Has a slick and rich mouth feel, and a medium bitterness. Is a balanced and nice ale.

Sample at the Aficionado’s "Hidden Gems" beer tasting on 05/24/2013: Pours a reddish-amber color with a medium thick creamy light beige head that diminishes slowly. Sticky rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt, nutmeg and citrus. Medium to full body with flavors of bready malt, ripe fruit, spice and resiny hops. The finish is fruity and malty. Above average overall.

550 ml bottle purchased @ Julio’s Liquors back in December 2012. Dark muddy red/ brown color. Aroma is sweet and very malty with noticeable Simcoe pine. Taste was actually much like the nose, tons of caramel malt and a sharp hop edge created from the Simcoe. Strong notes of pine with a resinous kick of bitterness. Taste is medium to full bodied, balanced carbonation. I feel the hops really dominated the malt and the resin is a bit harsh. Had I let it get more age, perhaps the hops to malt ratio would balance better. Right now a bit harsh.

Bouteille 500ml.
