Gorilla Warfare Porter is a silky smooth porter made with 40 lbs of Park Slope’s Gorilla Coffee Ethiopian Yergacheffe blend, a Fair Trade and Organic Certified coffee roasted in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The coffee has winey, spicy notes with hints of baker’s chocolate. Combined with patent malt, the signature of many great English-style porters, this is one silky smooth, coffee-rich porter.

notes from 2/13/09 Growler via New Beer from an aged keg. It tasted like it. Muddy, muddled, murky, runoff pour into my everyday chalice. A decent buildup of wicker-colored head. Soda-like lace. Smell is slightly charred brown bread, cocoa powder, & a light coffee tone. Muted hop presence in the background. Taste shows an initial stab of earthy sweetness, with burnt nuts & baker's chocolate. Middle ground consists of mud, green wood, & a light chase of alcohol. Some oxidation characteristics are present on the finish. Slight ashiness in the feel. It softens up the delivery. Level carbonation. Had it at BT during its release last year. Either though age, or recipe tweaking(or just spotty handling), the intensely pure coffee flavors that I wrote down in my notes, just weren't there this time. I look forward to a fresher sample.

On tap at Grizzly’s. Pours near black with a earthy dark brown head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has a good amount of coffee with bitter dark grains and strong roasted malts. Flavor has strong bitter coffee supported by strong roasted malts and dark grains.

Tap at sidedoor. Burgundy brown body. Steady creamy off white head. Massive coffee tones, almost too much really, but really has a quality coffee feel. Full bodied. Tasty, but hard to drink a lot of.

Draft @ Laser Wolf. Dark brown, lots of coffee on the nose. The taste is coffee with some fairly smooth, lightly chocolatey dark malts. Very coffeeish but clean, roasty and pretty good.

Location: Growler from Syosset Beverage, 10/13/14

Aroma: The aroma is heavy coffee, very roasty, bitter, just a little sweet, with dark chocolate notes
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a coating beige head and plus lacing
Flavor: Tastes much the same, roasted coffee up, down, and sideways, with notes of chocolate
Palate: The body is medium-plus, with an average carbonation, and a long, dry, roasty finish
Overall Impression: This is one of the most coffee forward beers I have had in a long time. Anything else that is going on here is completely drowned out by the strong, bitter, dry coffee flavors. One dimensional, sure, but that one dimension is well done.

Sample at Yabo’s Tacos. Dark brown color with a medium foamy tan head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of coffee, malt and chocolate. Medium body with flavors of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and malt. The finish is roasty with a coffee aftertaste. Above average overall.
