Blonde version of Lucky 13, released in 2011 and 2012.

From the first day of the first mash of the first recipe in the first brewhouse in the first space to this oasis 13 years on the road; We have worked hard to walk in the footsteps of our hero brewers- The Noble Brewer of the planet’s only legal Steam Beer, and Oregon’s Rebel Brewer from Newport. Thirteen years down the road, we have found our own voice as brewers but our admiration for the Great Ones has not dimmed one bit. If we walked well down the hero’s path ourselves, perhaps we too have been an inspiration for others. Beer is a Bronze Age business and we feel honored to have left our footprints on it’s path into history, at the same time leaving our flavors on your buds. Thanks for your trust over the years and we hope you enjoy this specialty breweed Hi-Gravity Auburn offering.

Bottle. Clear amber liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma of biscuit, citrus, grapefruit, cereal, caramel, grass, cardboard, mango, a bit throw up, uncooked old bacon and candy. Taste is light sweet and medium bitter with notes of raw sugar, caramel, grapefruit and resin. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. OK but some weird flavours.

Bomber bought @ Systembolaget. Pours clear deep golden with a not too big frothy offwhite head that slowly dissipates while leaving some sticky lacing on the glass. Smell is slightly sweet, hoppy and malty with caramel, peaches, pine, grass, fruit toffee, dried apricots, bread, ginger, orange peal, grapefruit juice, dark grapes, biscuits, alcohol, plums and very subtle hints of green peas. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty and hoppy with crackers, alcohol, powdered sugar, pale homey, grapefruit juice, pine, lime leaves, resinous wood, green grapes, moist grass, lemon grass, oatmeal biscuits, dried apricots, unripe plums, resin, sweetened lime juice, orange zest and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is sticky bitter, tiny round, slightly boozy and medium bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with biscuits, lime leaves, alcohol, pine, slightly dry grass, crackers, resin and grapefruit peal. Hard to specify but not too hard to like.

22oz bomber pours clear copper with thick gold edges and nice tan looking head of foam. The aroma offers up some caramel malts, some toffee and a touch of citrus amid molasses covered biscuit malts. The taste has sort of a caramel malt, sweet malt, biscuit malt, melanoidin malts and a modest level of earthy to lime peel like hops. Interesting. The lime like notes grow right into the finish and pick up a bit of sweet fruity esters. Neat brew.

Bomber served at the Fusion VIII at Murphy’s Bleachers. Looks like an alt or steam beer, somewhat coppery in color, with a stiff head. I am calling that Northern Brewer hops. Most substantial malt nose of the Lagunitas beers I’ve had here. So it’s quite strong on both ends of the hop/malt teeter-totter. And another little treasure from the vaults in Petaluma!

Pours hazy gold into a Sam glass. White conglomerate head with excellent retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Pineapple, mango and resin aromas. Sweet tropical fruit front to back turning to mild grapefruit and resin in the lasting finish.

On tap at The Hay Merchant. Pours a clear orange copper with a large frothy white head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is floral hops and pine. Thin mouthfeel with a smooth sweet hop and light bitter finish. Easy to drink a very impressive American strong ale from Lagunitas.

Bomber from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours light copper/amber with a creamy/fizzy white head. There seems to be a lot of resin in the nose. Nearly full bodied with strong, but soft, carb. Flavor is resin over roast malt, there’s a barley wine similarity (heavily hopped barleywine), and there’s also something extra in terms of veg/herb hop. Tarragon? Or maybe it’s light pitted fruits. Whatever, it is unidentifiable by me, but it certainly enhances the beer. I’m rashly guessing that the alt refers to alternative rather than style. For some years I’ve missed the little alt on 13 labels. Glad to have finally noticed!!!!!!!!! Finishes quite bitter. Very nice.
