Blonde version of Lucky 13, released in 2011 and 2012.
From the first day of the first mash of the first recipe in the first brewhouse in the first space to this oasis 13 years on the road; We have worked hard to walk in the footsteps of our hero brewers- The Noble Brewer of the planet’s only legal Steam Beer, and Oregon’s Rebel Brewer from Newport. Thirteen years down the road, we have found our own voice as brewers but our admiration for the Great Ones has not dimmed one bit. If we walked well down the hero’s path ourselves, perhaps we too have been an inspiration for others. Beer is a Bronze Age business and we feel honored to have left our footprints on it’s path into history, at the same time leaving our flavors on your buds. Thanks for your trust over the years and we hope you enjoy this specialty breweed Hi-Gravity Auburn offering.

On tap at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Bright hazy orange body, thick puffy cream head. Spicy sugared tangerine peel aroma, crisp, fresh, and resinous. Sweet, oily body with tangerine pulp and rind, guava, passion fruit, and some cattiness. Bitter, citrusy finish. Quite good.

Bomber. Pours a slightly hazy cantaloupe hue with a medium off-white head that collapses into a resilient blanket somewhat quick; creamy lace sheets the glass. Has a hoppy nose. For some reason I thought it was going to be more malt-driven. It’s both floral and piney with some bready notes hanging around in the back. Taste is bittersweet with some sour in the finish. Flavor is somewhat reminiscent of Arrogant Bastard. It’s like a cross between a strong IPA and a barleywine. Body is full, carbonation is medium. Not bad.

Bomber - lightly hazy golden - nose is earthy hops, pale malt sweetness and far too much alcohol - flavor is very sweet and sugary, but also with a fairly spicy and citric hop presence - not much else, really - very one-dimensional - astringent alcohol in the finish - tastes like a messier version of a bunch of other Lagunitas beers.

Bottle @ home. Translucent, burnt orange appearance with a creamy white head. Awesome grapefruit/orange citrusy, lightly earthy hoppy, big malty nose. A touch spicy, earthy, grapefruity, mildly bitter hoppy, sweet, very malty flavor. Grapefruity, malty aftertaste. Excellent. [Accidentally entered this as Lucky 13 a few weeks ago, so this is a correct entry.]

Pours a deep golden color with a good sized fluffy white head that shows great retention and lace. Aromas of citrus and pine waft from the bottle the second it is opened. Sweet toffee and caramel malt backbone hold this one up quite well. Taste is citrus and pine up front, sweet caramel and burnt sugar pop in for a second somewhere in the middle. The hops take over the finish and dance for a second with a touch of ethanol. The malty sweetness is almost approaching maibock here but the hops are powerful enough to keep that in check. Medium body and level of carbonation. Resinous and sweet sticky mouthfeel. This is nice, I liked it. It’s a bit different, but I really enjoyed it.

22 ounce bottle into snifter. Pours crystal clear orangish golden amber color with a dense 1 finger off white head with great retention that reduces to a fairly thick lacing cap. Nice amount of thick lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of big pine, orange, lemon, grapefruit, breadiness, caramel, and molasses. Very nice and complex aromas with nice strength. Taste is tons of orange, lemon, caramel, pine, honey, breadiness, and a bit of spiciness as well. Nice amount of bitterness on the finish that lingers with caramel, citrus, and pine flavors; with some nice sweetness in there as well. Insanely balanced beer, with just the right amount of sweetness, and overall great balance of all flavors throughout. Insanely smooth drinking for being almost 9%, with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. Alcohol is basically invisible, only a a slight warming after the finish noticed. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied. Overall, an absolutely outstanding offering from Lagunitas. So much well balanced flavor.

On tap at the 1-4 the road. Rather odd light orange clear color with a really nice head that fades quickley. Smell is a little hoppy with an IPA BO oily background on theh olfactory. Alomst comes across like a rude IPA on the first taste, tes; shockingly like an IPA. It says alt but no way. Difficult and piercing on the taste buds. No detectable CO@2. Has some orangy citrus in there. Not so luckey for this lager lover but I’m glad I had the chance to try this junk out. Long bitter medicinal linger. Yes, it clearly lets you know it is over 9% fer sure. This is especially apparent on the finish.
