Blonde version of Lucky 13, released in 2011 and 2012.
From the first day of the first mash of the first recipe in the first brewhouse in the first space to this oasis 13 years on the road; We have worked hard to walk in the footsteps of our hero brewers- The Noble Brewer of the planet’s only legal Steam Beer, and Oregon’s Rebel Brewer from Newport. Thirteen years down the road, we have found our own voice as brewers but our admiration for the Great Ones has not dimmed one bit. If we walked well down the hero’s path ourselves, perhaps we too have been an inspiration for others. Beer is a Bronze Age business and we feel honored to have left our footprints on it’s path into history, at the same time leaving our flavors on your buds. Thanks for your trust over the years and we hope you enjoy this specialty breweed Hi-Gravity Auburn offering.

Served on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA on 6/18/11. Pours a clear golden color with a medium sized frothy, creamy offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of spicy citrus hops and faint toasted malt notes. The taste is pale malts, toasted malts, caramel and peppery hops. Medium bodied.

Bomber. Pours a fairly clear orange with very little head. Aromas of citrus and tropical fruit, but pretty faint. Flavor is vintage Lagunitas: boozy, hot and hoppy with quite a bit of residual sweetness. Yummy.

On tap. Billed as an imperial alt...its not. Pours with a clear bronze to brown body with an off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aromas are hoppy, herbal, toasty, bready, brown sugar and marzipan. A bit sticky sweet. A hint of weed. Flavors are hoppy, fruity, and stale hops (that are a touch citrusy). Grainy, tea like, brown sugar. ASA feel, not an Alt for sure. Some alcohol, medium bubbles. Not a big fan to be honest. Messy.

22 oz. bottle, pours a clear golden with a medium white head. Aroma of crusty bread, yeast and sweet malts. Flavour of sweet bready malt, caramel, candied sugar, mild hop bitterness and some Belgian style yeast. Solid, though lacking depth / complexity. Nowhere near as good as the original Lucky 13.

Another good beer from Lagunitas. It’s right in their normal wheelhouse, despite the whole alt angle. Hops are strong and provide a big citrus and spruce flavor. There’s some light sugary vinous complexity, as well, but I’m not sure where it’s coming from. The beer has a definite sugary, candy cane note with deeper caramel sticking more to the background. The mouthfeel is nice and round. The taste starts sweet with lots of delicate hoppiness and ends with a healthy but relatively gentle bitterness. It’s deceptively easy to drink for the abv, and there’s very little stickiness or booze to it. Once again, Lagunitas has made a strong, hoppy and delicious beer. It might run together a bit with some of their other offerings, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less delicious.
