A smoked abbey ale. It was intended as an imperial stout, but due to the use of 15% smoked malt, came out as another beer. Dry hopping applied.

Bottle, from trade with Papsoe. It pours a clear, ruby color and a finger-thick off-white to light beige head. Smoked nose, evident hops, those two sort of clashing together leaving an impression of sour milk. Not that sour milk is the dominant aroma, there’s just something similar going on. Meaty, coffee-like notes in the back, slightly roasted. Not really sure if I’m fond of it. Well, I think I do. It’s quite fruity too, mostly on the dried fruits side. The flavor starts quite meaty and coffee-ish, followed by dried fruits, bitterness, fruityness and smoke. Some strange notes of over-ripe strawberries too. In a nice way that is. It’s full-bodied and nicely carbonated. Smoked, bitter and sweet finish. Overall, a nice one, indeed, blending a lot of different flavors in a nice way. Strange, complex, tasteful and more-ish. Definitely one I’d like to have again. 110218

Courtesy of bierkoning, thanks Edo! Dark hazy ruby color, small beige head. Aroma has rye and caramel. Caramel, toffee, some berries, strong smokeyness in the finish. Decent, but combination of flavors are not favourites of mine. Nice beer with smoked cheese anyway.
