For this variant we aged Bourbon County Stout in rye whiskey barrels, then added raspberry and blackberry juice and puree from Michigan and Washington. The process resulted in complex jammy fruit notes that are prominent but well integrated with the caramel and chocolate flavors of the beer and spicy rye character from the barrels.

Bottle: Poured a dark thick black with fast dissipating head, in fact it didn’t last much past the initial pour. The aroma is quite complex there is strong boozy bourbon at first whiff, however as I continued to smell I could pick up the berries. The taste is a mix of bourbon and slightly tart berry fruit, I really picked up a spicy finish at the end. Which I can only explain is the rye whiskey. This beer is a nice sipper. I appreciate savnac sharing this beer with me.

22 oz. bottle, pours pitch black with virtually zero head, just some tan lacing that immediately dissipates. Aroma exudes loads of rich black raspberries, very subtle whiskey and not much else of the regular BCS on the nose. Flavour brings out the berries on top of everything - loads of raspberries, blackberries, natural sweetness from the berries - no roast, chocolate or coffee or anything resembling the base beer. ABV is amazingly well-worked in for being 12.8%. Light-bodied, but heavy flavours, quite cloying in sweetness. Certainly doesn't feel like a stout / imp. stout to me. Soft carbonation and sweet fruity. Good rendition of BCS, but far from the best.

Shared bottle with Mr Hunt, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a solid used motor oil black without much of a head. Smell is Roasty. chocolate and tart dark fruits with hints of vanilla and oak. This is certainly less boozy in the aroma than the standard version. This stuff tastes great. It’s a rich thick chocolaty roasty stout with a really nice sweet and sometimes tart fruity edge to it. Thick rich creamy mouthfeel with a light level of carbonation and a substantial body. I wish this were a bit easier to obtain because I really enjoyed this.

Courtesy of Dak. Pours nice and dark with tan head. The aroma has a mild stale sensation, earthiness and pomegranate juice as well as an interesting herballiness. The taste delivers juicy pomegranate, earthy cardboard, some chocolate, herb like notes and then booziness growing into the finish. Interesting brew that takes on a soap note here and there too. I’m not sure what this is supposed to be. Hmmm.

Bottle shared by Mike12da. Berry and chocolate nose, a bit simple but nice. Black with lace. Big berry flavor, sweet, chocolate, jam basically. Some pepper and alcohol. Ok stout character, the fruit takes over. Tasty as hell, though. Don’t get much rye barrel. This might be much more interesting in a year or so.

Sample at the Ping Pong, Foosball, and Great Beer tasting on 03/03/2012. Pours an inky black color with a medium tan head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of berry jam, oak and malt. Rich body with flavors of tart berries, malt, oak and vanilla. The finish is fruity with a lingering raspberry coffee aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Bottle with friends. Thanks to whomever brought this! I’ve been looking forward to trying this one. Dark brown appearance with a tiny, tan head. Blue raspberry, roasty dark malty, light vanilla aroma. Blueberry/raspberry/blackberry/strawberry, tart, dark roasty chocolate malty flavor. This one doesn’t retain many of the BCS qualities.

Enjoyed from bottle at Smallbar in Chicago, IL with a good friend after a copious amount of eating for a wedding tasting. Appearance is a very thick pitch black with a dark fruit colored rim, absolutely no head. Aroma of dark chocolate, bourbon, blueberries, raspberries, vanilla, lactose, very nice, great, and complex. Taste is very smooth for an imperial stout, even smooth considering other bcs varieties ive had. Equal parts of all the aforementioned elements, the bourbon comes out a little more for a light burn, the addition of those fruitier angles adds a lot to this vetted brew. My vote for best bcs still goes to the coffee, but this is a close second.

Sampled from the tap at 2011 FOBAB. Poured black with a dark brown head that began and remained at the edges. Aroma had a nice red fruit note that matches nicely with the roasted malts, bourbon and dark chocolate. Flavor started with dark grains, roasted malts, bourbon and dark chocolate with the red fruits coming on in the finish to combine nicely with a hint of tartness. Really enjoyed this one.
