For this variant we aged Bourbon County Stout in rye whiskey barrels, then added raspberry and blackberry juice and puree from Michigan and Washington. The process resulted in complex jammy fruit notes that are prominent but well integrated with the caramel and chocolate flavors of the beer and spicy rye character from the barrels.

Bottle thanks to Matt! Pours midnight black. Nose/taste of blackberry, roast chocolate, sweet molasses, vanilla, whiskey, oak, sweet chocolate and rye. Finishes sweet with whiskey covered blackberries. Full mouth feel.

22oz bottle pours an oily, opaque black with one ring of tan head. Smells like blackberry jam and chocolate, blueberry, almost like being on your hands and knees in a blackberry patch, a little fusel alcohol, raspberry. Berry, berry, berry. Favor is sweet, chocolate, malty, licorice, big berry-ness, straw/blue/black/raspberry, a little boozy like coconut rum. Full bodied, boozy, sweet finish. Not a perfect mesh, but unique.

Had part of a shared bottle. Poured a dark black color. Aroma was dark roasted malts with chocolates, and some berries in there - blackberry, raspberry. Flavor was boozy chocolate with some mild sweet berry notes. Had this alongside the Coffee variety and enjoyed that one a lot more than this one. It worked as an interesting experiment, but I didn’t feel like it lived up to the hype (from friends and previous tastings). I’d focus my efforts getting one of the other varieties if I was really trying to get hold of one of these BCS.

Bottle @ Fanø Slumber Party, 2012. Pours black with a creamy head and lacings. Sweet roast, oak, vanilla and bourbon. Flavor adds berries, soy and a bit of salty liquorice. Lovely fresh raspberries lingering. Smooth. Really nice.

Acquired in a trade.

A - Poured a lighter black than expected. Pitch dark in the bottle. No head

S - mild fruit scent. mostly blackberry scent followed by vanilla and oaky charred scent

T - Up front chocolate malts and hints of spices. Mild alcohol burn with some campfire aspects. Some bourbon but it’s weak. Finish has hints of blackberry and blueberry.

M - 20% carbonation. medium to heavy body. sweet fruity finish

O - I was expecting more from this. Pretty disappointed compared to other BCBS offerings.

Bottle shared by badnewsbeers. Deep opaque brown/black body, thin light brown head. Tart blackberry syrup nose, sweet and syrupy with molasses and burnt sugars; thick. Prickly, tart body, sweet with blackberries and molasses; almost sour. Too fruity and berry-like, the fruit overwhelming the rest of the beer.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of FrumptyDumpty. Pours a cloudy opaque dark brown with a small light brown head. Sweetish spicy aroma with some dark berry notes. Rich body, low in carbonation, sweet roast, licorice allsorts, filled chocolates and again lightly tart berry notes. Warming alcohol finish but never boozy. Very delicious. 280712

Black with a small tan head. Aroma of licorice and red berries, notable raspberries and then some bourbon. Sweet flavour with both licorice, red berries and some sweet bourbon notes giving it a candy feel - extremely tasty despite the sweetness

Bomber from emileer. Nose is blackberries, (shouldn’t this be a fruit beer?) molasses, chocolate, and a hint of vanilla, and whiskey with the berries (big time) and molasses dominating. Black with a medium but quickly dissipating cinnamon tan head. Flavor is big on blackberries with some sweetness and chocolate and some rye whiskey in the finish with a hint of bitterness. But the berries almost mask most of the impy characteristics.
