Smoked Baltic Porter is the sultry sister of a storied style. Brewed with traditional German malts and hops, this dark lager gets its special twist from a hefty addition of Bamberg smoked malt. This smoldering, medium-bodied lager is sure to please.

Obscenely overpriced bottle at Das Meisterstuck, purchased cause I saw it was retired here. Jet black with a medium tan head. Aroma is cigar smoke. Flavour is again dominated by cigar, burnt wood and some licquorice. Body is not as heavy as you would expect.

10cl sample (bottle) at Vulkan ølfestival. Pours dark brown, almost black, with a small beige head. Mild aroma of roasted malt with licorice, dark fruits, chocolate and just a hint of smoke and spices. Medium to full body. Sweet, but well balanced. Lightly bitter and hoppy finish, also quite dry. Pleasant porter, but a bit anonymous. (2012-10-03)

Bottle, 22oz. A dark brown beer topped by a small, beige head. More or less clear. Coffee, hints of smoke, some chocolate and nuts in the aroma. Only a hint of smoke, I think there should be more of it. That goes for the flavor too, which is mostly roasted, with some coffee and a decent bitterness. A light sourish smoke note too, and some sweetness. Full-bodied, semi-dry and nicely carbonated. Short finish with roasted malts kind of bitterness. A nice beer indeed, but it needs more punch, especially on the smoke. 120505

Tap at Great Divide, Denver - 04/06/12. Dark brown but not quite approaching black with a decent tan head. Lightish roast malt, a touch of liqourice, smoke at the end. Dark chocolate combines in the flavour along with the roasted malt and is then backed up by charred wood and smoke. Lighter end of medium body, not watery, but a little light - I’d have preffered a bit more bollocks in the body! Moderate carbonation, sweet finish with a puff of smoke.

Bottle 650ml @ Patricks Pub og Restaurant, Kristiansand
Pours black with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, oat and smoke. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long roasted and oat finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Black color; medium sized head, with short retention. The aroma is not as smoked as expected, instead it shows paper, coffee, cardboard, light vanilla. Smooth mouthfeel; dry but pleasant flavor of roasted malt, coffee, ashes; these are correctly blended and mild enough to be acceptable; light smoked touch; ordinary bitterness. It reminds me of Carnegie Porter with some smoke, not enough chocolatey, not enough Baltic (in other words, it’s weak).

Draft @ Sunset Grill and Tap. 6- 23- 2012 Before a Red Sox Game. Pitch black with thick, dense tan head. Head stay until brew was gone leaving some foam on bottom of mug. Nose of roasted chocolate, roasted grain with a hint of smoke. Taste like it smells. The smoke is an accent to this and not the main focal point. The smoke complements the roasted grain and malt and is not way over powering. Superbly balanced. Medium body with a slick texture. Can’t find the ABV. For me this is a nice. Easily the best smoked brew I’ve sample to date.

650 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.5%. Black colour, dark brown in the highlights. Large beige head. Smokey and roasty aroma, notes of smoked meat, mild coffee and dark chocolate. The flavour is medium sweet and moderately roasty, some coffee and dark chocolate again, the smokiness is not excessive. Moderate hops. Good beer, but I’d still prefer a Limfjordsporter to this one.
