From old tasting notes. Reddish brown color with a huge tan head capping lots of big bubbles. Sweet caramel-like roasted malt aroma. Flavor follows the nose with a candy-like quality. Big warming alcohol prescence. Intense bittersweet malt flavor. Caramel, bread, nutty and earthy. Excellent.

Sampled long time ago in Antwerp. Neutral aroma. Chesnut colour, laing creamy brown head. Dusty/yeasty edges, oranges, roasted, earthy notes. Tart hebal finish. Medium body. Earthy rye bread aftertaste. Not my favourite.

The beer label says Maredsous Dobbel. This is the closest I could find. Pours brown caramel in the glass. Nose and taste of sweetness, dougs and beet sugars. Rated 6/15/2000

(Bottle 33 cl) Dark amber or light brown if you prefer, but it’s the head that’s the real treat with this: brownish, fat, almost cream-like leaving a beautiful lacing. Some caramel and nuts in the flavour but very well balanced - not too heavy, not too sweet. Not overly complex but rather nice. 080298

Beautiful amber color. Very nice caramel aroma, mature. Too dry and thin flavor, loses immediately of interest; just some caramel, a bit cheesy.

This Belgian Blond poured a light orange colour with a fizzy/spore like head. Lots of yeast scents to this one. With a little orange citrus thrown in. Slight peppery smell. Initial sip was overcarbonated. The taste started out tasting not overly yeasty compared to other belgians I've had but that was the predominent flavour here. The finish was pretty much the same with a palate that had a small amount of the orange citrus and almost a strange continuation of the carbonation. Not a bad Belgian.

Sampled draught at Frey's Hörna, Stockholm.
Dark amber, clear, small creamy head. Toffee aroma. Fairly sweet with soft, rounded mouthfeel. Gentle caramel leads to a velvetty finsih with a light addition of grassy hops. A well balanced beer.

!Sample of indeterminable age - well-aged, we'll call it. Maredsous 6° is rare, even at Belgian beershops, so I had to take what I had 'in store'. Colour dark-amber to red chestnut, with golden shine at the edges. Slight, but quite stable, irregular yellowish head. Nose means madeira, oxidation, nutty and very outspoken honey. Taste is nutty again, still bitterish main taste with underlying malt. Peppery retronasal flavour. Mouthfeel is still surprisingly very carbonated, even spritzy. Light bodied, but visceous at the same time, not at all watery. Aftertaste mainly madeirisation flavour. It is debatable whether this represents the current beerstyle, but it remains above arguing that a relatively light beer keeping up so well, is a good indication of original quality.
