Brewed specifically as a competition entry, then going on to take first place, champion was the obvious name for this outstanding premium beer. With a rich, strong flavour and unique sweet and fruity character, champion is a firm favourite in the Mcewan's range. Full-Bodied, Smooth and Complex.

500ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with a decent fluffy off-white head, reducing slowly, lots of lacing. Rich malty aroma and flavour, caramel, fruity, sweet. You notice the higher ABV but it’s nicely balanced. Very smooth. Didn’t think I’d like this but thought it was very nice.
Just to note... Still brewed and bottled in Edinburgh according to the label. From what I’ve read it seems the bottled version of McEwan’s Scotch Ale was the one that moved to Bedford, not this one, Ratebeer seems to think otherwise.

Flaske 500 ml på rom 426 Premier Inn Croydon Town Center 27 Nov 11. Mørkebrun. Bra maltaroma. Filmskum med litt farge. Smaken lett syrlig malt. Blir litt tungdrikkelig. Alkoholen skinner gjennom.

Bottle from Tesco. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy white head. The aroma is woody hop, raisins, rich fruit. The flavour is moderate sweet with a big over ripe fruit, woody resin hop, light spice, alcoholic palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
