From old tasting notes. Translucent red, brown color. Small bubbly beige head. Sweet roasted malt nose. Tart prune-like malt flavor. Little to no hops. Coffee finish.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café Sveavägen, Stockholm. Labeled Berghoff Traditional Bock) Dark brown colour with hints of red, frothy beige head. Malty nose with dark bread, dried fruit, raisins and caramel. Malty taste with notes of dark bread, ryvita, caramel, cola, a touch of dried fruit and a spicy finish with moderate bitterness. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel. A certain malt sweetness shines through. A decent and drinkable dark lager, not really exciting though.

Bottle. Dark brown body, clear, with a fizzy, tan head that diminishes to nothing. Malty aroma of caramel, toasted grain, nuts. The flavor is moderately sweet and very lightly bitter. It finishes sweet with a slight tartness. Light to medium body with a thin, watery texture. Fizzy carbonation. OK and easy drinking, but a little short on flavor and body for a dunkler bock.

12 oz Bottle pours out a nice dark brown topped with a small tan head. There is a small amount of caramel aroma to it and has a little biiterness to it.

bottle - Pours dark brown with a moderate head that lingers for awhile. The light aroma is of caramel malts. The flavor is sweet dominated by sweet caramel malts and the body is a little on the thin side. It finishes with a mildly dry and bitter finish. It’s okay.

Pours deep red (deeper than the Lakefront Bock I just sampled) with just a few bubbles hinting at carbonation. Caramel, wet socks, and rotten fruit aroma. Rather thin-bodied with caramel and candy-like fruit. A bit flat. Not bad but fairly boring.

This was served on draft as a "seasonal" at the Chicago Berghoff’s restaurant, so it may be a different beer than the bottled. When tapped, delivers a nice, cascading head that leaves neat rings of foam as the glass emmpties. A very inviting dark brown beer in the glass, with the taste of a fine dark malt character. Mostly a brown sugary taste with a hint of fruit complexity (yeast?). No bitter or astringent taste for a beer this dark. Finishes a bit on the light side, but very, very drinkable.
