Our malty, sweet dark lager is a hometown favorite. Our Dunkel is packed with subtle roasted malt flavors without the excessive bitterness and heaviness of many dark beers and has a balanced hop finish.

Bottle. Hmm, not at all what I expected. Pours a dark brown, almost black, with a thick, fluffy beige head. Heavy lacing as I drank. Aroma was sweet and fruity. Up front the flavor is sour, like sour cherry. Afterwards there is some mild roasted malt character, but barely a hint. Not well balanced, unpleasant flavor. Light to medium in body with lots of carbonation. Tart aftertaste. I have never been more tempted to pour a beer down the drain. I have to think this beer might have expired. (Even though I did buy it last week.) As it stands, I do not recommend.

Draught at Barcade, New York
Black color. A Dark Lager with some oxidisation. Balanced, with the oxidisation to play a positive role, but nothing special.

Bottle. Roasted aroma, with a rich malty tone to it. Overall the beer was pretty light, refreshing and, well good. After having some Atwater brews that were only so-so this one hit the spot.

Inviting pour with large, fizzy off-white head atop a dark brown body. Aroma of caramel, molasses, straw. Light hops. The flavor is moderately sweet and moderatley acidic. Very light bitterness in the finish. Thin texture, average carbonation. Overall, a crisp, easy-to-drink beer, though nothiing to distinguish itself.

Atwater dunkel weizen on tap at the Mad Mex in Robinson. Big 16 oz glass for $5. Very nice dark brownish hazy pour. Aroma of sweets and root beer along with fermenting fruit, interesting and appealing. Nifty earthly intriguing flavor that reminds me of Corsendonk or Fat Gary. Medium low carbonation that is not tingling but welcomed. Very friendly and well balanced. A decent behaved brew that is easy to enjoy. Cannot detect much, if any bitterness. Overall just a nice repeatable session brew that leaves me feeling happy. Everything about this brew is very acceptable. Would not hesitate to buy this again. Dunkel is one of my favorite styles. On par or slightly better than other good dunkels I’ve had such as Weltenburger Kloster Barock Dunkel, Penn Dark Lager Beer and Warsteiner Premium Dunkel. Better than Harpoon Munich Dark and Saranac Chocolate Amber. I’m not sure why this is not classified as a dunkel weizen.

Deep ruby/garnet red body, medium-thick creamy, light tan head. Light chocolatey aroma, with notes of biscuit, toast, and somewhat sweet. Licorice, toast, and earthy hops dominate the body, with hints of berries or other dark fruits in the background. Light, though, and the flavors don’t quite meld together.

This beer came to me via a beer club and is not a brewery I am very fond of.+++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle the beer poured a dark brown color with a small tan head that faded quickly. The scent was strongly sour and almost skunky. The flavor was light and malty with a hint of skunkyness. It did manage to taste better than it smelled. A bit of sour malt lingers on the aftertaste. Overall this is a drinkable but not particularly impressive beer.

2003 draught.Light brown to burnt umber. Little head. Smells a bit sweet and can detect a rich malt. Tastes initially of sweet barley malt but also brings forth some licorice/fruit notes and quickly turns into a medium bodied, even beer. Some complexity (earthy malt notes on the side of the palette) and no bitterness. Dont know much about the style but this seemed like an all around well made beer. It just needs more body and flavor, didnt taste too much of the hops. 2004 Draught. No sweetness, roast is out of place. Flavor is dry and astringent. not as good as I remember.
