This Stout pours black with brown around the edges and has a medium tan head that recedes quickly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Chocolate malt aroma with hints of burnt coffee. Medium, dry body with flavors of malt and dark chocolate plus hints of coffee and oatmeal. The finish is roasty with a dark chocolate aftertaste. Above average overall.

Rated Aug. 2008. Courtesy of Degarth. Pours very dark with near infra red edges and thin mocha head. In the aroma are fairly bold notes of roasty malts, molasses and chocolate followed by a mild amount of coffee. A big draw brings up caramel and even more chocolate, yum. The taste starts rich and chocolaty then moves to a muted roasted maltiness. Toward midway a tasty combination of chocolate and caramel emerge and taper off the experience into the finish. Very nice stout.

Bottle: Poured a deep black color stout with a super large foamy head with great retention. Aroma of black chocolate with some subtle coffee notes is very interesting. Taste is a super well balance mix between some dark cacao notes with some coffee but without intense dryness at the end. Body is quite full with some great carbonation and a perfect creamy texture. Definitely way better then I would have expected and now makes me want to explore other beer from this brewery including the fruit lambic.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of Ungstrup. Clear, reddish brown with a dense, beige head. Vinous aroma with some roasted malt. Light-bodied, roasted malt accents - some underlying acidity. No real bitterness. I think there’s a hint of infection here. 310507

Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor is slightly acidic is it from the roasted malt? combined with light notes of chocolate, leading to a dry bitter end, where the bitterness primarily is from the hard roasted malt.

Draft. Nice balance between sweetness and a hop finish. Dark brown, approaching black, pour with comfortable, but receding, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and caramel wtih a touch of smoke and a hint of dark chocolate. Though it’s called a chocolate stout, the chocolate does not dominate near as much as the roast and hops. The flavor starts sweet and smoky and finishes bitter and dry. Medium body and a watery texture. Moderate carbonation.

pours a clear dark brew that at first appearance is black, but holding to the light reveals that it is a very dark brown. Virtually no head. Cold, this is thin with very little aroma or flavor, but as it warms it comes on nicely. Caramel, chocolate and coffee notes over a moderate malt base. The sweetness is well balanced with the sweetness. Some alcohol comes through.

Deep brown body, medium cream/light tan head. Chocolate and a touch of coffee in addition to roasted notes comprise the aroma. Creamy, rich body, with dark chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, a touch of licorice, and a chalky bite. Roasty finish. Quaffable? Yes. Unique? No. Do I still like this beer? Yes. Would I drink another? Yes. Did I just break pattern? Yes. Do I care? No.
