Bottle from Ladram Bay holiday park shop, Budleigh Salterton. Brown with decent white head. Caramel, roasted malts, dark fruit. Taste is similar and quite sweet. Moderate to high carbonation and lightish body. A little watery but quite moorish. More of a brown ale than a standard bitter I think but new to this rating malarkey.

Bottle from the Shops at Dartington. Appearance - amber to copper with a nicely proportioned head. Nose - caramel, ginger cake. Taste - more caramel, quite sweet actually. More spiced cake too. Palate - creamy and close to medium bodied. The finish could be fresher. Overall - slightly sweeter than I prefer for the style.

16th Feb 2018, cask half-pint in The Railwaymans Arms, Bridgnorth, Shropshire. Must admit I expected a darker, Raven coloured beer. Deep copper/amber body, full off-white head and lacing to follow. Malty blend with the hops playing catch up in both the aroma and taste, some light fruity notes in the flavour but subdued by the malty molasses that try to dominate this easy drinking brew (I like sweeter beers).

Bottle at home, 04/05/17. Copper to amber pour with a decent light beige head that dissipates edgeward in time. Nose is biscuit, orange marmalade, toffee, straw, light spice, hint of cocoa powder. Taste comprises brown bread, straw, hedgerow, bitter fruit esters, tangy orange, grains. Medium bodied, slighgtly prickly and overcarbonated, drying close with a light bitter finish. Ok bitter, the high level of carbonation let this one down a notch for me and I’m not sure if the fruit flavour was intended to be so sour.

Cask at Fox Inn, Fox Corner, Warplesdon. 03/06/16. Floral aroma. Not much too it. Dark amber, blotchy white head - a boring appearance. Sweet and sour - more of the former. Light and smooth. Lives up to the ’session ale’ description.
