Deep, dark, eternal. The Umbral Abyss devours all that pierce its watery veil. Eons of crushed debris give testament to this ancient nightmare.
Emerging from the darkest ancestry of Black Oktober, the Abyss rages with oak, brandy, and coffee. This giant ediface is a true Imperial Stout.

Tasting @Luppolo Station (Rome). Nera, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma cappuccino leggera. Al naso note intensissime di caffè, cioccolato, liquirizia. In bocca è dolce all'attacco con finale amaro deciso, caffettoso e astringente. Corpo pieno, carbonazione medio-bassa. Che birra!

On tap at Christianssand Brygghus. It pours a black body under a finger-thick brown head. The aroma has lots of coffee, with roasted malts, some alcohol and licorice. It's full-bodied, softly carbonated and sweet on the palate, with some salty licorice, a decent bitterness, some alcohol punch and warmth, and lots of coffee. Some roasted malt notes too. Lasting finish. A fine brew indeed, although a bit one dimensional. 190215

Bottle. Really black, a coat of brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, hazelnuts, chestnuts, some chocolate. Oily w low carbonation. Much sweeter than suggested by the aroma with roast, coffee and bitterness keeping up but only just. Some intriguing spice notes - cardamom i.a. - linger. Good but too sweet.
