Stout version of Gulden Draak Classic, since 2018.

-Kleur: donker, zwart
-Alcoholvolume: 12% – 25° Plato
-Aroma: banaan, chocolade
-Smaak: koffie, licht gebrande moutsmaak
-Ideale schenktemperatuur: tussen 8° en 12° Celsius

Bottle, 33cl. A dark brown beer with a dense finger thick beige head. Typical Belgo-fruity aroma, but with a roasted malts touch. Some coffee hints. It's full bodied and very nicely carbonated, lightly warming, with a bit more sweetness than I'd prefer. Roasted malts and Belgian ale flavor. Medium length finish. Quite nice this one, in a not your average imperial stout way. 240709

I stumbled into this beer at a Prague bottle shop, my only non-Czech purchase I believe. No idea Gulden Draak brewed an imperial stout. I have a snifter prepared to receive the pour from the 33 cl bottle, more an ale-looking body than your usual imperial stout. Mahogany brown liquid topped with a persistent skim of silvery tan foam. I smell ripe fruit, grain, a touch of chocolate and some roast perhaps. I take a drink. I swear, I think I’m sampling a dark Belgian ale. If I’d known it was going to be like this, I would have bought 5 of them. An exaggeration, but not much. Dark plums, baked wheat bread, black raisins, cane syrup, chocolate malt and a bit of earth.Tasty. Really good. I like imperial stouts and strong dark Belgian ales almost equally so there you are. Better than most quads I’ve tried. Years ago Ommegang and Alesmith partnered up on an American strong ale called Velocity: East Coast Edition that is similar to this brew. I thought that was an extraordinary beer. This beer is inline with that one.

bottle from beer bulevar garden, puerto de la cruz, tenerife. pours dark chestnut brown with a light brown large head faint belgian like quad like aroma, punch to the alc. also fainter malty notes. is like they usedbelgian yeasts in this one. Flavor is unique. its like a belgian quad where they at the same time added coffee and lots of dark malts, some roasted malts.its like they used yeast and fermentation moethod of a quad bur brewed it like an imp stout. or if they mixed up half imp coffee stout with half really potent quad. I like boths tyles, but a mix is an acquired taste i think, not there yet.

330mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a large beige bead — looking more like a dark Belgian strong than an imperial stout. Aroma confirms this, with plenty of spicy Belgian yeast, a touch of roast maybe, dark dried fruits, leather, and bready malt. Flavour is much the same, with rich dark dried fruits, molasses, burnt sugars, and Belgian yeast. Again, much more like a dark Belgian strong; so if you approach it that way, it may be more satisfying. Very good stuff.

Black colour; tan, thick head. Smooth beer, moderately sweet, with mild fruity, jammy presence. Good.

330ml @ Ryan's shared with Alex after 11h non-stop working day and after getting home twice because my wife did not want to listen to me. Appearance: dark brown with a nice beige head. Aroma: dark fruits, Belgian esters, some caramel. Taste: along the same lines. Overall: not sure why this one is called an Imperial Stout, while it is more like just a regular Belgian dark thing.

Poured from 330mL bottle (bb xx/06/26 - couldn't tell the first numbers due to where it's printed). Dark mahogany brown with full light beige head. Belgian yeast with some light roast and fruity dark chocolate. Enjoyable combo beer, but definitely different from the NA imp stouts. Still liking it.

Bottle. Dark brown with a dense beige head that fades to a fat coat. Aroma of light roast, chicory, stewed fruit, liquorice. Sweet with licorice and caramel, some stewed fruit. A bit roasty at the end with somewhat metallic bitterness. Unconvincing.
