Norwegian Forest Blend - Collaboration with Oud Beersel
Once again we are collabing with our good friends at Oud Beersel, this time we wanted to bring some of the Norwegian nature into the beer. Norway is full of fjords and forests, Skogen meaning forest what a better way to do this than to add some fresh Spruce shoots to a farmhouse ale and we have blended it to Young Lambic from Gert, we then aged the whole beer on red Zinfindel barrels for 6 months.
Ingredients: water, barley malt, wheat, oats, rye, hops, spruce shoots, yeast.

On tap at Håndverksølfestivalen. It pours an unclear orangey dark golden body under a dense, finger-thick off-white head. The aroma is lightly funky and sugary sweetish, with some bready malts, a hint of lemon and a generic fruityness. It's full-bodied and silky on the palate, dry and nicely carbonated, with a berry-ish sourness. Some funky flavor, lemon, barnyard and a foresty/herbal hint, with a distinct physalis touch. Lasting finish. A weird one, hard to pin, but also quite delicious. 190806

Caned on 01/04/19, Best before 01/04/24, 330ml purchased at La Cave à Bières d’Etre Gourmet the online shop.
APPEARANCE: hazy deep golden color with small & irregular off white head, a few floating pieces of sediment
AROMA: fairly complex and appealing smell, especially if you like wild farmhouse ales; fruity esters are in the foreground, sweet apples and mild apricots, lemon rind and freshly squeezed lemon mixed with sugar, stewed onions, underneath bright smell of young lambic, mild wood, hints of apple peel & cider, soft funk and tartness, hints of dusty cellar floor, notes of wheat bread, green feel (probably from spruce shoots but they are in general quite restrained), subtle hay, sulfur, minerals and faint honey
TASTE: smooth, fluffy and slightly creamy carbonation and mild oily texture, feels fuller for 6% abv, medium body; first of all, the flavor is less complex than suggested in the smell but still very accurate; moderate sweet onset of bready malts, light fruity esters, ripe apples, soft lambic note rounds out the whole experience, spruce shoots are nicely noticeable in the flavor but doesn't overpower, notes of pine, resin, wood, lemon zest & subtle mint; spicy and fairly bitter finish from spruce shoots, hops and low tannins from lambic; light white wine tartness in the middle, smooth dryness
OVERALL: very interesting concoction and collaboration; harmonious marriage of Norwegian Farmhouse ale and young lambic from Oud Beersel; spruce shoots are well dosed and enhances the flavor profile; smooth combo of bitterness & soft tartness emphasis drinkability and thirst-quenching character of the beer;

Can. Unclear golden body under a small white head. Nice aroma of wood, Brett and farmhouse. Taste is less impressive, the geuze part itself is OK in the background, but there is a flavor crash with the rest imo, it feels harsh and unbalanced. Wood, funk, yeast, fruit and herbs. Everything is fine, but the combination is not very nice. Not my kind of blending.

Canned 010419. Smells lightly funky and lambiky, not much spruce. Taste is dry, funky and a bit tart. Some cheesyness, but also a bit of fresh forest that must be the spruce. Light, refreshing and highly drinkable. Lovely on a hot summer.
