Czech style black lager. Our Coolship Lager Black gains its signature color from the use of European roasted malts. It is brewed using a traditional double decoction mash and hopped with fine European fine noble hops. After the boil it rests in our copper coolship for 1 hour. It is then transferred over our baudelot cooler into our open tanks for fermentation. After a cool fermentation using a classic Czech lager yeast, it is cellared for several months prior to release.

Appearance: black color with a one finger white foamy head which dissipated to barely leave any lace.
Aroma: roasted malts, sweet grains, light coffee-ish character, good level of earthy vibes, and a whiff of sweet ash
Flavor: blends all the prior noted aromas semi-sweetly, toasty and roasty, subtle aftertaste of earthiness, grains and roastiness
Texture: medium bodied, pretty sessionable, somewhat smooth along the tongue; finishes fairly dry with roasty tones and earthy to char-like vibes
Overall: pretty good black lager worthy of coming back to.

16 oz can. Pitch black color, fast dying head. Aroma is deep roasted grain, light smoke, coffee. Flavor of dark bread, coffee grinds, soft smoke. Soft Noble hop presence. This is well constructed.

On tap at The Greats of Craft NYC, pours a deep dark brown with a large beige head. Aroma has soft toasted bread and some gentle nuttiness. Flavour is dry and malty, with lots of crusty bready malt, toasted malt, and a hint of nuttiness. Very dry and bready finish. Very well-made.

Pounder from GBX after Clark told me this brand was cool. Mojito glass @home. Densely dark brown with some ruby highlights. Short but lingering froth. Brown bread, cola, faintly herbal, subliminal anise spice. Thin, bittersweet leaning astringent. Cola plus the acidity, fresh walnuts, mild peppery hops, lingering un-toasted brown bread sweetness. A hair too acidic but I much prefer this over the roasted Schwarzbiers everywhere masquerading as Tmavy. Good.

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a dark brown to light black with a finger of beige head that lingers. Chocolate malt and coffee aromas on the nose. Smooth on the palate, mineral, toffee and smooth dark chocolate. Not a bit of acridness. Very drinkable. Great stuff!
