28 May 2019. At Dok Brewing Company, Ghent. Cheers to my new colleagues at Teamleader! Pours hazy red-brown with a lasting, small, unstable, frothy, tan head. Aroma of orange peel, mango, biscuit, red bell pepper, tea leaves, peanut, fried onion, pink grapefruit. Taste is light fruity sweet, restrained orange & mango on a biscuity malty base, making way for a hoppy bitter core of spices, bell pepper, onion & earthy & grainy, indeed rye-like tones. Dry, piney hoppy finish, earthy & consistently rye-like, lingering red bell pepper, biscuit & grapefruit. Medium body, slick-creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. Powerful Amber Ale.

Bottle, as “THE KERNEL LONDON BRICK RED RYE ALE 6.6% ABV” on the front. Bottled on 31.01.19. “CENTENNIAL CHINOOK SIMCOE” on the back. Pours murky see through brown with offwhite head. Sweet bready malts, brown peanut skins, distant red fruits, spelt, rye, grassy, earthy, potato peel and leathery notes with raw crunchy yeastiness, sweet caramel and bitter tea leaves through all of that. Moderate sweet and quite bitter. Medium body and soft carbonation. Not the kind of beer I hope from a Kernel bottle but very English indeed. Cheers.

Hinten bitter, trocken. Wär grandios mit weniger Fusel.

Keg @ In De Wildeman (2012). Brown color, very cloudy, murky. Very dense, off white head with long retention & good lacing. Aroma’s: skunky (stinky even), dried hops, citrus, with retronasal some roast and rye. Flavor is somewhat acidic, medium bitter with a little sweetness from the rye making it a bit softer. Medium body. Finishes a bit dry, medium bitter, roasted, rye, a bit acidic.
