On tap at CafΓ© Sara, Oslo. Dark mahogany, close to black, with a decent, light beige, creamy head. Dark aromas are dominating initially; freshly roasted coffee, hints of dark, bitter chocolate and malt. Piney and slightly herbal hops with some fruity notes comes next. Moderate malty with notes of caramel. Fairly sweet, but well balanced - also nicely balanced between the dark and roasty and the light and hoppy. Nice BIPA!

Sampler on tap in the brewpub. Dark brown, nearly black colour, moderate beige head. Mild roasty notes combine with grapefruity hops in both aroma and flavour. Black IPAs / ABAs are increasing their popularity, and I can understand why, as the style combines the best of both worlds. This one is no exception.

On tap @ the brewpub. Slightly unclear dark brown body with a medium sized, dense, long lasting beige head. Aroma has dark, roasted malt, citrus fruit, pine and some dark chocolate. Flavor is silk smooth, quite bitter and exactly like expected from aroma. Fine body and long, smooth and fruity bitter aftertaste. A classic BIPA with a smooth finish.

On tap at the brewpub. A minimal sized dark beige head sits on top of a very dark reddish brown body. Looks clear. Roasted malts, coffee and lots of pine cones, resins and some orange zest. Licorice too. It’s full-bodied and soft, with a nice carbonation level. Some roasted malts and licorice, some raisin and dark chocolate, and with a good bitterness and hoppy flavors. Lasting finish with a good bitterness and orange. A really nice one, the way I like my black IPA’s. 140808
