Death by Chocolate Cake. What would happen if we took one of the nation’s best loved, super-indulgent desserts for inspiration, and applied it to our most indulgent beer? Even more cacao nibs, even more cacao husks, even more lactose, even more wood. It’s doubled down and ramped up to imperial strength. We’ve increased the ABV slightly this year and welcome back Amburana wood. These spicy, fragrant spirals impart all kinds of flavours, not dissimilar to the complexity of tonka beans, making the beer a truly unique experience.

Can at home picked up from HOTM. A jet black coloured pour with a lasting mid tan head that cascades. Aroma is rich spiced fruit cake, dark choc, woodland berries, chocolate gateaux, hint of cinnamon. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, rounded, rich fruit cake, dark choc, light treacle. Sweetness is very nicely in check by the bitter chocolate hit. Palate is rounded, good sweetness, mellow carbonation, full bodied. Lingering chcolate and some raspberry ripple action. Marvellous.

Can is caco nibs, milk chocolate, vanilla, a fresh woody smell, hint of coconut, touch of cola, hint of coffee, drinking chocolate. Taste is very chocolatey indeed, milk chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, cream, dark chocolate ice cream, condensed milk, sweet malt, leading to a very lightly spiced finish, lots of dark cherry, caramel, fudgey, slight woodiness in the finish with the spice and a little booze which stops it being cloying. Really enjoyed this

Fairly thick and a bit oily. Sweet, somewhat boozy, dark chocolate, some coffee. Smooth, nicely balanced. Wasn't a massive fan of the base version, but this is very nice.

Amburana notes here are clear, chocolate intensity. Vanilla smoothness

330ml can from Trembling Madness. Very dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is chocolate and vanilla, like a chocolate cake batter. Flavour is more of the same with a touch of coffee bitterness. Excellent

Dark beer, thick brown head. Rich smell or coffee, dark chocolate and something a little boozy and woody too. Tastes of rich cocoa, toasty malt, cinnamon, some boozy warmth, maybe Tonka beans too which all makes a lasting, spiced chocolate finish. This is rich and smooth and I love it.
