When designing this recipe with Helen we looked to recreate her love of Rhubarb Crumble and Custard. We made an oaty pale ale, then packed it with rhubarb puree, vanilla and a tiny touch of spice.

On keg at Brewdog Lothian Rd, Edinburgh. Appearance - cloudy amber with thin lacing. Nose - dank and earthy. Then stewed rhubarb fruit comes through. While I'm struggling to get the custard I am getting a creaminess. Taste - custard this time. Confected rhubarb and custard. Hard sucking sweets. Palate - close to medium bodied and creamy. Overall - not quite a Hoppy Botanist but good all the same.

330ml can. Hazy orange with a white head. Aroma of rhubarb, vanilla. Taste of rhubarb, custard (vanilla), fruity hops in the background, sweet but not at all sickly, creamy. Medium body, soft carbonation.

Keg at salthorse. Pours orange, nose is rhubarb, sugary, caramel, some banana, taste is sweet, rhubarb, toffee, bready.

Hazy yellow, not much head. Tart rhubarb in the smell and taste, with some hops, a wheaty quality to it as well. Tangy and sweet but not sickly in the aftertaste. Distincrive, 330ml was enough but nice

Keg at Fierce. It pours creamy golden - orange with a medium off-white head. The aroma is sweet - sour, tart, tangy, rhubarb and custard sweet, vanilla custard, creme brulee, red fruit and rhubarb sour candy. The taste is dry, sweet - sour, sour candy, rhubarb and custard sweets, creamy, slightly sour, fizzy cola bottles, rhubarb, red kola with a tangy fruit finish.. Medium body and fine, foamy carbonation. Thankfully not as sweet as feared. Tangy, fun. Drinkable.
