An effortlessly light porter. The thick shadow of roasted and caramel malts is enlightened up by the overall low final gravity and the crisp bitterness of Cascade hops. Meanwhile a juicy chocolate aftertaste is supported by the sturdy sweetness of rye malt and silkiness of oat malt.

On tap at Labietis Taproom, Riga on 14th June 2024. Dark brown with shallow tan film and spot lacing. Ripe, sweet fruitcake aroma. Burnt toffees, candied fruits and liquorice in-mouth. Burnt toffee flavours dominate the finish. Medium bodied with an engaging texture.

500ml bottle shared by Martinsh at the Latvia Day Tasting in Crewe, on 18th November 2023. Dark brown with a red hue to the body, on top a soft beige head. Malty with chocolate and caramel to the fore, calms down mid-sip and a hop bitterness joins the proceedings. Decent.

Bottle ordered from Craft Beer Station, Northampton – drank (shared) at Latvian Independence Day celebration at Ebenezers, Crewe. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a medium sized cream head and good lacing. There’s roast malts and cola in the aroma plus hints of chocolate and caramel. In the mouth it is slightly sweet with chocolate more in evidence alongside the roasted malts with hints of nuts and pats. This is a decent porter.

Smell- weak bit of smoke and roast. Foam- medium-thick, roast, some weak bitter notes. Head is quite small to medium, creamy brown white color, sticks. Appearance- almost clear, dark, brown, orange color, some carbonation, but not much. Taste- malt, roast, weak bitter notes, more roast, weak bitter notes and malt in the background. Drinkable, not nothing over the top.

Horrible appearance, cloudy, thin body, not that fantastic for the local style that is supposed to nail it. Labietis Riga
