This barley wine is a blend of multiple batches of beer, which were aged in different spirits oak barrels. Its complex aroma and taste of oak, dark and sweet caramel, vanilla, coconut, cacao, roast, dark fruits and berries is a product of a complex brewing combined with the long maturation time and in the end of time spent in oak barrels. It will cellar very well, but do not go into decades of ageing..It is a sipper and perfect to share on a special occasion.

330mL bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Nose has plenty of sherry-like oxidation, gentle bourbon, and some dark dried fruits—seems too old. Flavour is too oxidized but clearly has a nice dark dried fruits character, sherry-like oxidation, and a touch of oak. Definitely past its prime but there’s still some nice elements here.

Bottle, 0.33l. Aroma of caramel, toasted malt, wood, dried fruit and whiskey. Pours cloudy dark brown color with thin creamy brown head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts with sweet toasted malt, caramel and dried fruit, follows by coconut, wood and spirits with earthy note, while mouthfeel is warm and spicy. Full body, thick texture and average carbonation in palate. Big thing...

330ml bottle. Quasi black colour with small to average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige to tan head. Oaky, toasty, dark and caramel malty, slightly fruity aroma, notes of caramel, dark caramel, dried dark fruit, plum, dark cherry, some raisin, vanilla, Bourbon, a touch of cocoa, whiffs of coconut. Taste is dry oaky, fruity, toasty, caramel malty, notes of caramel, dark caramel, dried dark fruit, black cherry, morello, plum, dark berries, raisin, hints of vanilla, Bourbon, some cocoa, dark chocolate, treacle, whiffs of coconut, salty liquorice; widely well hidden alcohol, just a slightly warming and minimally pungent, alcoholic touch in the finish. Oily to viscous texture, smooth and soft, minimally cloying palate, fine and soft carbonation. Very well balanced, harmonious, dangerously drinkable - excellent!

Second oldest, and least favourite. This has way more wine tastes (or maybe a starting infection?). Woody, some tartness, fruity and some rye-like spice. Clearly less caramelly whisky sweetness, or vanilla from bourbon. A bit herbal. Slightly more syrupy.

Very dark brown with lasting thin head. Aroma and flavour have plenty of boozy cognac, vanilla Bourbon and some fruity tequila notes too. All this on the back of the solid maltiness of a good Barley Wine.

Pours pitch black, topped with thinner and nonlasting beige head. Pleasant chocolate aroma, enriched by vanilla, intense whisky and coconut, later on some woodiness and dry fruits. Full body and silky smooth. Pleasant chocolate and vanilla sweetness, gentle roastiness and bitterness. Pretty warm alcohol feeling, but not burning. Very fine one, again.

330 ml waxed bottle, bb 26/03/2018.
Black body, with a medium, quickly dissipating, brown head.
Aroma of bourbon, sherry, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, tobacco, dried fruits, some vanilla, some oak.
Tastes of dried fruits, sherry, toffee, tobacco, oak, chocolate, vanilla, some booze.
Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes warm, medium sweet, medium roasty, wooden, with bourbon, sherry, chocolate, tobacco, dried fruits.

Tasty. Big and complex, with really a lot going on, while still not too overwhelming, well balanced. A bit less boozy than the previous blends. Great, warming sipper.
