An inky-black, full-bodied ale with mid level bitterness and a rich, malty finish. It’s packed full of flavours of chocolate, coffee and has a residual sweetness on the finish.
We’ve used two traditional British ale hops; Bramling Cross and Phoenix. Bramling Cross for blackcurrant and spicy character and Phoenix for chocolate flavours and aromas. But the malt is the star of the show here. Inspired by Robert Fergusson’s poem on festive merriment and celebration.

Can from Luvians, St Andrews. It pours pretty much black with a thick, rugged dark tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, bitter - sweet, coffee grounds, liquorice allsorts, umami, salted dark chocolate, nutty and praline. The taste is dry, dark roasted malt, bitter - sweet, bitterness lingers, quite savoury, dark chocolate, cacao nibs, umami, liquorice, burnt toast, charred oak, toasted spice and espresso coffee with a dark roasted finish. Medium+ body and moderate carbonation. A nice hearty porter. I like the balance.

330ml can from Beer Zoo. Gluten Free. Dark brown colour, beige foam head leaving lacing and aroma of roasty malt, dried fruits, caramel, coffee. Taste is roasted malty, alittle ash, dark chocolate, and dried fruity, raisins, with coffee and earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, light carbonation, dry roast bitter finish. Nicely drinkable. Good for gluten free.

Can. Dark brown body with ruby highlights and a beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of raisin and plum. Flavour of caramel and lightly roasted malt. Thin to medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. This is really good. I’d like to see Bellfield brew some bigger beers - 7% ABV and stronger. I think they’d be great.
