This is our second experiment with Egremont Russet, those beautiful leathery, brown dessert apples, and we’re quickly discovering that we love them!

We pressed the apples at peak ripeness in early December, running part of the juice straight into a barrel that had formerly held cognac. We left it to slowly and spontaneously ferment, and by early summer the cider, now intriguing, unusual and beautiful, was moved into bottle and left to rest.

A still, fully fermented cider, it has a definite wine-like feel in the mouth, carrying with it soft apricot, honey, flowers and a distinct and wonderful lime skin note. The signature nuttiness of Egremont Russet, along with fragrant barrel emerges on the finish.

Drink cool but not cold. Gluten free. Vegan friendly. No added sulphites

750ml bottle from Little Pomona. Slightly hazy yellow colour, no lasting head and aroma of cognac, woody, buttery, fleshy apple. Taste is sweet, cognac, apple, fruity, core, buttery, vanilla, tangy, woody, some tartness, mellow. Oily mouthfeel, medium bodied, low carbonation, dry barrel-y finish. Nicely drinkable.
