500 ml can, from Joker Vatlandsvåg. ABV is 4.5%, IBU 20. Dark brown colour, moderate beige head. Aroma of caramel, Belgian ale yeast and mild Christmas spices. The flavour is malty and not too sweet, with the same elements as the aroma. Nice to drink, probably also decent to accompany traditional Christmas fare.

500ml can bought at Eurospar Bodø. Shared with Kjell. A deep dark brown body, hazy last pour. Filmy beige head, scattered lacing. Quite inviting smell of toffee chocolate, earthy. Blended taste of toffee banana, chocolate, hints of dark fruits as well. Spiced chocolate-fruity ending, mid-sweet. Medium bodied. Pretty good. (Bodø Panorama 13.11.2020).

Can. Clear, dark brown to amber body under a fine, dense beige head. Aroma of brown malt, toffee, bread and spicy Belgium yeast. Taste is sweet and malty, toffee, bread, hint of chocolate, a bit nutty, dry fruit, spicy and Belgium yeast. Medium body and average aftertaste. A god effort of making a Belgium dubbel at Norwegian grocery shop strength, but that seems to be an almost impossible mission as the style is made for about 6% ABV. I just can’t help searching for some more warming alcohol and a stronger body when tasting this. Otherwise is sure a decent Christmas beer at this strength.

Can. An unclear chestnut brown beer with a finger-thick beige head. Some lacing. The aroma has a good dash of caramel, with some chocolate, bread and notes of banana. Quite a lot of cloves too, but none added, so it's the abbey yeast playing tricks. It feels rather thin on the palate, semi-dry, with a quite soft carbonation. The flavor profile is pretty much similar to the aroma, except there's a more distinct herbal touch, and there's sufficient bitterness added. It dries up towards the finish, with the flavor turning in the direction of cocoa and nuts, still with caramel, banana and cloves present. Not my favorite Christmas beer from Nøgne Ø, it suffers too much from the moderate alcohol level and body, but it's sure a fine brew that should go well with several traditional Norwegian Christmas dishes. 201013
