Christmas Eve, 8 pm: You are bursting with pork fat and small sausages, the kids are constantly nagging about Santa not showing up, and the fireplace has warmed the house to a sweltering 30ºC. Wouldn’t it then be nice with a lukewarm, semi-dark, cloyingly sweet traditional beer? We didn’t think so either. Cherry Christmas and Hoppy New Year from Monkey Brew!

Sample from can at Fritjofen's juleølsmaking December 2019. Red colour, pink head. Medium sour with notes of cherries and blackcurrants, but not quite as "fresh" character as I hoped for. Not the best sour beer I've had. Will re-rate when/if I have a whole bottle / can.

330ml can bought at Gulating Ølutsalg in Tromsdalen. Shared with Finn. Huge pinkish head over a cloudy (dark) reddish body, spotty lacing. Modest smell of berry skins, mid-sweet. Red berry-fruity flavours on a backbone of lactose. Tart and sweet to the ending. So and so. (Tromsø 10.05.2020).
