Keg at Mad Squirrel, Wycombe. Clear gold with a thin white head. Whiff is proper Bamberg - smoked meat and greasy salami. Yeah! On tasting it's less meaty and more like bonfire smoke, with a nice honey sweetness and some light but fresh lemon and grass too. It's definitely a sipper due to the quite heavy smokiness, but it's also well balanced and has a bit of lightness and grace to it. Really enjoyed it, it brought a smile to my face. I do like smoked beers, and for me this was my favourite yet in the rauchbier style, outclassing the Sclenkerlas. Nice one Mad Squirrel!

Can at home picked up from Mad Squirrel Berko. A very clear, pale golden coloured pour with a lasting fine white head. Aroma is big beechwood smoke, meaty roast, smoke oil, bready grians. Flavour is composed of semi crisp, bready grains, smoke oil, pine, some bitter woody finish, light metalic. Palate is semi crisp, moderate carbonation. Pretty authentic, hangs together well.

Taste comprises good smoked malts, bonfire, light scorch, smoked meats, toasted grains, background fruit esters. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light drying close with a good smoked throat tickle. Solid smoked affair.
