Nice to drink. --- Beer merged from original tick of Brown Ale on 21 Apr 2014 at 22:00 - Score: Appearance - 7 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7.5 | Texture - 7 | Overall - 7.5. Original review text: On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Dark brown colour, low beige head. Nice aroma of brown and roasted malts, hints of liquorice. The flavour has more roasty notes than most brown ales, malty but not sweet, Notes of mild coffee and liquorice. Moderate but noticeable hops in the finish. Pleasant to drink. I would not protest if this one were called a brown porter.

Bottle. Clear deep amber body with a dense beige head. A bit weak in aroma, light caramel malt basically. Taste is medium sweet, caramel malt, rye bread and moderate bitterness. Medium body and same aftertaste with a hint of chocolate in addition. Drinkable but rather plain, I definitively prefer the US version. --- Beer merged from original tick of Brown Ale on 16 Oct 2017 at 10:56 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 7.5. Original review text: A few bottles served as accompaniment to duck during my sons wedding dinner. Dark brown body, close to black with a nice beige head. Lovely aroma of dark malt, dark chocolate, toast, nuts and dry fruit. Flavor has a good balanced sweetness from malt with distinct dark chocolate, toast, general fruitiness, good bitterness and hint of coffee towards the end. Fine balanced body and long lasting aftertaste. A fine brown ale with distinct chocolate malt flavor and rather high bitterness for the style, just the way I prefer a brown ale as this is a perfect match to several kind of meat dishes. At least it was perfect for my duck in porter souse.
