Chocolately, dark malty aroma, a cautious smoky touch, notes of dark chocolate, some yeast spiciness. Super deep, dark brown coloured body with a nice, two centimetre tall tan head and a lighter brown coloured tint when held at an angle directly at the light. Aroma of tons of smoked malt, earth, nuts, pungency, alcohol, grain, yeast and a bit more smoked [meat]. Nice and very rich, and that’s just the nose! Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasty flavours up front that are overtaken by the smoked flavours, some earth and grain, a bit of coffee, oysters and a little caramelised sugar flavour as well. Aftertaste is deep and strong with the earth and lactose really coming out here and showing some nice yeast and smoked qualities as well - very complex on the end. Overall, a nice and rich beer with an assertive smoked quality with the belgie-ness coming through as well with the defined [foreign] stout characteristic in the yeast strain. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 22-January-2016 for US$2,49 sampled at home in Washington on 07-September-2016.

Bottle at Camping Kost-Ar-Moor, bought in Groningen. Poors black with quick diminishing tan head. Sweet roasted (almost burnt) chocolate malts, big sweet melasse, hazelnut, lactic, smoked aroma. Big sweet, over medium cocoa and roasted bitter, tiny sour bend in the finish. Full body, low carbonation. Big sweet, burnt and alcoholic. Too much melasse and too little else, very sweet, sugary, alcoholic and not smoked but deep roasted. --- Beer merged from original tick of Smoked Belgian Stout on 18 Dec 2017 at 11:35 - Score: 6.
