The third beer we brewed with the chefs of the famed Ciel Bleu restaurant. A Double IPA with Sudachi, a Japanese kind of lime, and Buddha’s Hand, an odd yellow claw-shaped fruit. The juice and oils of these Eastern fruits provide a slightly exotic layer of taste, which nicely blends with the soft but prominent hoppyness of this beer.

We boiled Centennial and Chinook hops and dryhopped with Galaxy for some additional citrus. A hop mix that makes for a remarkably soft type of bitterness. Combined with the citrus influences, it gives this light-bodied double IPA a pleasant touch of complexity.

Bottle from Biernavigatie. Aroma is fruity hops, grapefruit, bitter citrus peel, orange, malt, pine resin, soft herbal notes, hint of caramel. Flavour is moderate sweet with a bitter finish. Body is medium. A fine IPA, tons of citrus (peel) and grapefruity hops, good bittersweet flavour. Nice.

Tap at ’t IJ: Clear amber/orange colored brew with an sublime dry bitter taste, hints of citrus, pine and some caramel.

Bottle. Golden color. Herbal, soft spicy aroma with tropical and citrusfruit. Herbal, spicy flavor, bitter, hops, tropical and citrusfruit pushed to the background. Too spicy for me.

33cl bottle. A clear dark golden beer with a huge most good lasting off-white head. Intense hoppy bitter aroma, grapefruits, citrus. Taste of intense bitter hops, citrus fruits, grapefruit, spruce, peach. Long bitter finish.

Fles gedronken met LiekevdV. Het is een amberkleurige ipa met een volle stevige schuimkraag. Het heeft een frisse geur en een lekkere frisse citrussmaak met een lekkere bitter van de hop.

Bottle from Geers. Hazy amber colour, aroma of tropical fruit, citrus. Light sweet, rather hars bitterness, hoppy finish. Ok IPA.

Bottle. Clear copper color. Aroma has buttery caramel, peach, herbs and citrus. Taste of spices, citrus, caramel, grassy hop, some pine and a dry bitter finish. Bit weird on its own, I imagine it works better with the food it’s intended to pair with.

(Bottle, Brouwerij ’t IJ, Amsterdam, 23 Feb 2017) Amber colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, hoppy nose with notes of citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruit, caramel and mango. Malty, hoppy taste with citrus, grapefruit, orange peel, tropical fruit, caramel and a generous citric, tropical bitterness. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Really tasty, with a fresh and generous hop character, and malt to match it. Very nice.

0.33 l bottle from ’Speciaalbierpakket.nl’, best before August 2017. Clear, dark amber with a medium large, foamy, stable, off-white head. Sweetish, fruity, moderately resiny and slightly herbal-spicy aroma of mango, orange, ginger, lime and pine. Sweetish, quite malty, fruity, resiny and slightly herbal-spicy taste of mango, orange jam, pine honey, ginger and lime, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, very resiny, slightly herbal-spicy and a bit dry finish. Medium to full body, creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice!

Heavy bitter hopped, moderately sweet. Some bitter citrus aftertaste, but most of the fruit gets overpowered. Solid beer, not that special.
