[Cask at the Monk’s Retreat, Reading] Pours a dirty amber with a moderate cream head. Slight carbonation. Initially malty with a growing bitterness. Rather watery texture, yet leaves a syrupy residue on your lips. Late bursts of sweet, fresh apple and a hint of orange fail to save what is the first below-par ale I’ve ever had from this brewery.

Cask at the Nags Head, Reading. Dull amber with a thin off-white head; silky texture with caramel malt flavours; dry nettley bitterness to finish with a hint of caramel sweetness. Not Loddon’s best.
