Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, soft wood, mocha, some liquorice, with a touch of dried red fruits. I do get plenty of wood upfront, but the red wine is subtle. Flavour is fairly sweet with some roasty bitterness in the finish. Body is full. While the wine is subtle, the base Stout is supplemented well with notes of wood. Hardly great, but not a bad first encounter with the new Emelisse White Label series after the not-so-hostile takeover.

330ml bottle from Cotteridge Wines. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, creamy caramel fudge, light boozy alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet and liqourice bitter, with a roasty, dry vinous, oaky, warm alcohol bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. The alcohol and vinous barrel notes dominate the beer. I’d hoped for more body and sweetness in the finish, but still an awesome beer.

Smells sweet and malty, slightly fruity. Taste is sweet and fruity, with some hoppy bitterness at the back. Much more of a black DIPA than a stout, and not a good one. Wine BA only comes through as some fruityness. Thin. Had low hopes, with good reason.

Bottle. Almost black. Malt, ash, licorice and hints of red wine in the aroma and flavor. Licorice dominating the finish. Hint of vanilla. Roast, questionable balance, still a nice beer.
