Bottle from Cask Christmas calendar. Clear, deep amber body with a decent beige head. A bit weak aroma of caramel, toast, anise and smoke. Flavor has caramel, some chocolate, toast, anise, hint of ginger, some smoke and low bitterness. Medium body and average aftertaste. Difficult to get what the brewery want to go with this one, it’s kind of spicy but nothing to associate with Christmas cake, the name might give association with Belgium dubbel – but it is not even close, still to much anise to make it mach any kind of Christmas food and the smoke makes it just a total mess in my palate.

330ml bottle from Gulating Ølutsalg, Tromsø. Clear dark ruby body. Low, bubbly fawn-coloured head, collapsing. Poor lacing. Discreet brown malty nose, hints of ginger. Mid-sweet caramel malty flavours with distant spices. Mid-dry endnotes. Clean in the mouth. Okay as a partner to my cold salmon dish. (Tromsø 25.12.2017).

Deep nutty color with a fine off white head. Decent intensity in the aroma. Medium body (well it felt a bit thin after a while) and an average carbonation level. Tad sweet. Toffee, nutty, fruity and some spices.
