The Benedictine monastic lifestyle is one of quietude, hard work, and prayer. The monks are up before the sun rises for the first in a series of prayers known as the Divine Office, prayers which are chanted in a plain, but beautiful, monophony. The sounds of many voices brought together in a single plainsong that fills their church, mingles with incense, and rises up towards heaven. Ora, our Abbey Trippel (or Belgian Strong Gold depending on who you ask), reflects the same aesthetic by bringing together barley, oats, rye, wheat, and spelt, as well as hops and three house-cultured Belgian yeasts into a unified whole. St. Benedict's motto was "Ora et Labora" which translates to "Pray and Work." We brewed this beer believing that, if you do it right, those two actions can be one in the same.

Reviewed from notes.
Bottle to tulip.
Appearance: semi-hazy orange to subtle brown color with a finger's worth of slowing dieing white foamy head which left a little bit of lace
Aroma: honey, grassy, pomme fruits, Belgian yeasty character, sweet earthy features, and some light Belgian candy notes
Flavor: leads with a sweet Belgiany vibe and adds in a little bit of spice from the Belgian yeast; finishes slightly Belgian yeasty with the pomme fruits and honey
Texture: medium bodied, becoming a sipper, smooth along the tongue, that light "back-of-the-throat" -ish Belgian grab
Overall: yes this is definitely a Belgian styled strong ale and I would very much welcome this again!

Taster pour at Powder Keg Beer and Chili Festival. Appearance is hazy light brown with decent sparkle, finger-width foamy white head with poor retention. Aroma is strong yeast--bordering on bile/vomit-- mildly unpleasant, with a little bit of fruity ester, wheat, some nondescript sweetness. Taste is mild fruity esters and quite tart though not obnoxiously so (to be sour) but definitely tart. After initial tart blast fades, there is a graininess, of the cracker/biscuit variety. Palate is surprisingly light bodied with thin texture, average to lively carbonation, tart dominant finish with sweet sugary quality. Overall, the tart quality dominates and not entirely for the better.

22 oz. from Bert’s Better Beers. Color is a cloudy straw, slow fading white head. The aroma shows me light yeast (fruity notes) straw, with mild spice.
Flavor shows a nice yeast character again, fruit (pear, stone fruit, Apple skins). The body is light with a yeasty lingering aftertaste. Low bitterness with a slightly herbal finish. Carbonation is slightly high with a juicy texture. Pretty respectable.

Pours deep gold into a tulip. Bright white head with good retention recedes leaving scant sheets. Caramel and banana aromas. Sweet and hot with prune and biscuit front to back. Lasting warm pepper finish.

Bottle from Candia Rd. Mostly clear deep golden color with a decent sized off white head thta shows moderate retention. More fruity than spicy on the nose although both exist. Hints of sugary candied fruits and just a touch of alcohol. Faint cereal grainy flavors add a nice touch to a pretty damn nice sippin’ beer.
