Stark Porter

Roast and coffee. Sharp roast. Some bitter nut. Black pour with mocha head. Bitter end with a little light cloying tang on the longterm aftertaste. Can.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thick, three to four centimetre tall tan head that fades fairly quickly, but still leaves the body pretty opaque at around 80%. Aroma of toasted malt, light coffee and bitter notes some mellow chocolate and dry grain with very little else, and absolutely no sweetness. Light to Medium-bodied; Deep bittered malt flavours with some toasted grain, a touch of oatmeal, a dose of coffee and light chocolate grain but no sweetness from the chocolate or bitterness, as these flavours hit hard at first and fade to just about nothing but a light bitterness, nutty flavour and dry grainy flavour towards the end. Aftertaste shows some of the grain and bittered toasted malt with nothing else - no pungency, no sweetness and no real alcohol or malt backbone - this is pretty thin and bittering at first and for all. Overall, a decent-ish beer with some mild and relatively simplistic flavours without much depth or pungency, which is usually noticeable, especially for the style. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Hop City at Krog Street Market (Inman Park) in Atlanta, Georgia on 31-May-2018 for US$1,79 sampled in my hotel room here in Atlanta/Buckhead, Georgia a few hours later on 31-May-2018.

Draft at Bearhouse Tavern, dark brown with tan head. Thin bodied for this style, watery taste and mild malty finish.

Lata 33 cl en el lupulo Oviedo 13..2..2017. Embotellado 07..12..2016 hasta 12..2018. Color negro intenso con espuma beige Aromas y sabores suaves maltosos algo tostados y con toques ligeros herbaceos frescos que le dejan suave amargo. Cafés pocos y algo de cacao. Cuerpo ligero fácil de beber líquido con algo de gas. Normal.

Owner of a roasty heart, with a deep toasted malt backbone rendered a bit bland by its thin texture. Heavy mocha notes help, but the finish needs more hops to give it some complexity. Decent.
