Cask @ Head of Steam, Birmingham. Hazed dark brown appearance, sparse brown head atop. Light chocolate malt aroma, malt grain. Light bodied, lacks a lot in terms of chocolate, body and general oomph. Expected more.

Cask at Hogshead, Wolverhampton. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small cream head and good lacing. Strong chocolate drowns out anything else that might lurk in the aroma. Pretty much the same in the mouth, where there is milk chocolate and cocoa and a hint of treacle. Here, however, olde English spangles and hops do get a look in. Finish is slightly fruity - but mainly chocky ! Not bad, but somewhat overdone on the chocolate.

Cask at the Craven Arms, Birmingham. Poured a clear almost black colour, with a lasting frothy, off-white head. The aroma is roasty malt and chocolate. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a smooth rich, oily, dark chocolate, lactose palate. Over medium bodied with soft carbonation.
