Bottle from BiervanEijk, Frederiksoord. Tart and oaky with red and dark fruits, lots of sherry, some funk, malt, some caramel, cherries, more wood, touch of syrup. Tart and sweet, nice and complex. Aove medium body. Lovely sherry aroma with a malt backbone.

19/288 Smell-weak to medium, malt, caramel, plums, dried plums. Foam- weak sourness, weak malt, acidic notes, sour cherry, malt. Head is quite small, medium-dark brown color. Appearance- nice bottle cap, vax sealed bottle, the label itself - no bunus.Hazy brown-ish color with sediment inside. From - snifter Price - 6,49 euros! Taste- weak sourness, acidic notes, cherry, malt, plums, dried plums, then some more sourness and faint bitter tones. Winey. Bit odd, I am not a fan of sour stuff, but it's like sour-sweet. Tarty. Not my style, but has some nice notes mixed in.. that cant save it though.

Aus der 0,375er Flasche (13,8%) im 2021-03 getrunken. Diese rotbraune Ale überrascht mit einer säuerlichen, fruchtigen Note, die an ein typisches Flämisch Red erinnert. Am Gaumen bleibt die Frucht aber die Dominanz der Malzaromen und der moderaten Süsse geben einer Säure keine Chance. Auch wenn das Ale nicht an ein Barley Wine erinnert, so macht es mit seinem sehr kräftigen Körper und einer wunderbaren Aromakombination einfach Spaß im Glas. 10/4/10/5/19 Aus der Flasche (bbe 31.01.2025 / 9,0%) im 2022-06 getrunken. Auch diese Version wie die von vor 1-2 Jahren mit 13,8% hat eine deutliche sauren Charakter. Nur hier gibt entsprechnde keine Süsse um die Säure auszugleichen. Und so ist der BarleyWine Charakter nicht zu entdecken. Es bleibt ein von dunklen Traubenaromen dominiertes Strong Ale. Stil verfehlt aber dennoch echt lecker! 8/4/8/4/15

33cl bottle. A dark brown beer with a tan lacing. Aroma of dark roasted malt, liquorice, dark fruits. Taste of dark caramelized malt, dried fruits, red berries, vanilla, liquorice.

Bottle. Color: Very dark, almost black. Very thin mocha head. Aroma: Sweet and tart, dark fruit, vinuous, lightly boozy. Taste: Sweetish, caramel, dark dried fruit, some vanilla and raisin / dried grape notes too and hints of red fruit. Over moderate sweet and light vinuous tartness. Oloroso is nicely present in this beer. Very lightly bitter. Over medium body. Bit sirupy and oily mouthfeel. Sticky on the lips. Low carbonation, but hey, at least there is some carbonation again in a La Calavera... :) Very nice complexity and balance. Another great La Calavera.
