Midnight, the transition from one day to the next, is characterised in this Black IPA. Dark malts underpin a rich roasted malt character, building towards notes of citrus and pine from the generous dry hopping. It’s always darkest before the dawn.

11/12/2021. Can sample courtesy of SHIG. Pours very dark brown with a small short lasting frothy beige head. Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malts, hops, cinder toffee, berries, citrus. Medium sweetness, moderate roasted bitterness. Moderate body, oily watery texture, average carbonation.

Can: Poured a deep black coal with a light brown head. Aroma is gritty cascades hops, piney, resinous, roasted malts. Taste is bitter cascades hops, roasted malts, piney, citrus, roasted finish almost coffee like.

440ml can from Mad Squirrel, High Wycombe. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, big woody hops. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter, with a very dry, roasty, ashtray, pepper spice, hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Panda at home, thanks to Fergus, 08/05/21. Extremely dark mahogany brown to light black with a decent khaki covering that dissipates in time. Nose is dried red berries, charr, pine needle, light cocoa, Ribena berry, dark malts. Taste comprises dark malts, mellow roast, red berry sprinkle, charr, pine needle, chocolate biscuit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with dusty hop bitterness. Solid CDA.

Can at home picked up from Mad squirrel St Albans. A hazed nut brown coloured pour with a lasting mid tan froth. Aroma is nice sticky pine tar, liquorice, singed bark, toasted malts, little plastic. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, bitter pine, resin, liquorice, wheat, tar, bitter pine sap. toasted malts. Palate is rounded and frothy carbonation, some sticky hop, Solid black IPA.

Can thanks to Ashton McCobb. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aromas of burnt orange and tinned peaches. Taste is bitter, more orange and peach. Light roast. Bitter finish.

Can from the brewery. Appearance - deep brown/mahoganay to black. Cream to fawn attractive head. Nose - orange and peach straight up. Then more orange and peel. Taste - bitter burnt orange peel. Then milky coffee and bitter coffee. Palate - medium bodied, roasty middle and finish. Overall - good.
