Golden Pride is a premium, superior-strength bottled ale.

Brewed to 8.5% ABV, it is equivalent in strength to Belgian Abbey beer or barley wine, and is designed to be consumed in smaller measures than the traditional pint.

Golden Pride is known for its rich malty flavours, good balance, and notes of orange oil, toasted grain and spicy fruitcake. The late Michael Jackson, beer writer and connoisseur, labelled it 'the Cognac of beers'.

Bottles from Waitrose (2014 and 2025). Clear amber/ruby body with no head. Steady carbonation. No lacing. Aroma of caramel, honey and wood. Flavour of stewed fruits, earth and warming spices - it tastes like a rich Belgian beer. Medium body with a slick texture. Light fizz. This is very nice - a rich, warming beer.

Bottle @ home. Pours deep, clear copper with thin, quickly disappearing head. Nose is typical English ale-like, something I can’t really describe. In taste it’s mainly sweet, with hints of grains but there are some hops in there too. Closes with bittersweet finish, has soft carbo and light to medium body.

Cask @ Volo.
Murky beige color. with little to no head, and very very little carbonation. Wonderful aroma of golding hops, and some fresh cut grass. Flavor was more of the hops, with some great bready, caramel malts. This cask might have been a little old, but this was still an outstanding pint of real ale. LOVED IT!

I remember hearing this was the base for the vintage ales, and i can really taste it. Very bready, boozy malts. Light hopping, some pine, and resins. Quite a bit of cereals but still the bready, brandy malts are up front. Just loaded with flavor, this is a real treat.

Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, brown sugar, dried fruits, raisins. Flavour is medium sweet with a light bittersweet finish. Sweet, but pretty tasty.
