One for the hopheads, Bird Dog is full of intense flavours courtesy of American hops to deliver a smooth, resiny beer. Tropical fruit dominates the flavour with subtle fresh squeezed orange with a hint of pine thrown in. Given the name, the astute drinker will note a gratifying absence of any avian or canine aftertaste.

Draft. An amber beer with a yellowish head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, fruit, and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, hops, lemons, other fruits, and spices, leading to a bitter finish.

Tap at Our Dog Friday in Tekapo, NZ. Slightly translucent copper orange pour. Fine white bubbly head. Aroma is orange, pine, light caramel. Taste is bitter citrus, light biscuit, some light alcohol. Not bad. Not great. Definitely wouldn’t seek out but not a bad option.

Bottle shared at Moons in Gore. Bit hazy amber with lasting off white head. Dry caramel malts, grassy and weedy hops, kiwi, light bready, soft white grapes, light dry apricot. Medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with a bit light and dry feel. Classic style.

Bottle. Now 7% ABV. Don't think it's NZ Cascade these days either. Amber with a puffy white head. Aroma of bread crust, floral and grapefruity hops. Some dried peach, mango. Rich rumbling malt with sticky bread crust; then the floral and slightly herbal hops begin to grip (the citrus is not as prominent) and lead to a firm bitter finish. I suppose this is old fashioned now - from the days before neutral malt IPAs, let alone hazy ones. It's great.

330ml bottle into shaker. 7%. Copper coloured beer with frothy white head. Medium carbonation. Patchy lacing. Nose is fruity, resiny, earthy. Full-bodied, viscous. Taste and finish are full of peppery bitter hops. Delicious! Easy-drinking too.

330ml bottle. Grapefruit, pine, apricot. Nice malt background but the hop profile comes over a little messy. Not my favourite.

Pours clear amber, bit of foam there. Nice looking. Aroma is sweetish, some fruits, not really hoppy. Feels a bit old, so should have drinken this earlier. Taste has mild hops, bit of fruits, rather malty beause hops are getting fainter with time. Good and tasty drinking but I imagine I need to rerate if I can try it fresh.
